11 month old baby girl in the bathroom with her mom. Mom is trying to take a shower. Mom places baby in bathroom w/bucket of toys and puts baby in her view. Mom watches baby through glass shower doors. Mom washes hair....eyes closed....glass fogging up....Rinses hair....Opens eyes....Mom moves fog from glass to see baby. Doesn't see baby....Mom strains neck and sees glimpse of baby in cabinet drawers.
Mommy: "Kate what are you doing?" (in playful mommy silly tone)
Baby: Baaa-gaaa-shhhh translates in italics and bold - I'm not Kate
Mommy: "I mean Lil's ....what are you doing?"
Baby: ahhhhhhhhhhhh-blaaaaaaah (Going through all your stuff)
Mommy: Liiiiiiiiiiiiiily Close that drawer now......Go play w/your other toys. Mommy is almost finished. Let mommy rinse her hair and at least get one leg shaved today.
Baby: (stares at mommy w/a smile while eating the top of her lotion and then starts rummaging through another drawer)
Mommy: "♫Clean up clean up everybody everywhere clean up clean up♪"
Baby: dadadadadada (That's not gonna work this time....I'm not in the mood to clean and you're in the shower so there isn't anything you can do about it)
scene ends with mom watching the destruction of her bathroom yet again! AWW joys of motherhood! ;o)
Lil's cracks me up on a daily basis. She is babbling like crazy and knows a few words....Her favorite lately is "Buh Buh" translates to bye bye! She will grab a phone and say Buh Buh. She will wave Buh Buh too! It's all about the Buh.
She will sign for milk (she opens and closes her fist like she is grabbing something) and then tugs my shirt
Dada is daddy....
muh muh is mommy.....
da is the dog....(got to be careful and listen for just 1 da or she could be talking about her daddy!)
The other day Lil's was walking over to the dog food at tornado speed. We always have to make sure we pick it up or she makes a bee line for it to tump it over on purpose. I can tell her No a million times and she just laughs at me. The other day I was doing something *I don't remember what...I'm a mom and multitask* and I heard Lil's scream bloody murder like she got seriously injured. I ran over to her and she was w/her daddy. Daddy obviously told her No and she busted out sobbing. We had full blown lip tremble...jerky sobs! I was shocked. How can da's have such much power. It happened again the other day....she was trying to get at his phone and he put it up and still she persisted by climbing up him....and he said "No" ...not even in a rough tone...just a simple No.....boy did she turn on the water works and lip tremble! She bawled again! Amazing! So now she has mastered No! Thankfully she only says it every time she sees the dog food....then of course tries to reach it before I can...all the while squealing with laughter!
The next funny word phrase she uses is the good ol "UH OH". Except her words are Uh Uh. You know how this gets started...things drop...you say the phrase and so on... Well now everything is dropped on the floor for the Uh Uh. Even stuff that you didn't want dropped on the floor! But I'll allow it for the time being b/c she's soooo darn cute saying it.
Lil's is also the queen of snorting! She will scrunch her nose up and show all 4 cute teeth and snort multiple times in a row. It's the cutest thing. You can't help but smile and join in!
She also likes to get the dog howl and mimic him! During bath time she calls the dog in the bathroom...."DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" Moses comes a running. Then she stands up in the bath tub (yes, naughty girl) and starts her impression of howling. (sounds more like a really loud moan) This gets the dog howling and I sit there laughing hysterically! She is such a ham!
Each day she perfects her new skill and now she can literally run....ok she looks totally unstable but it is funny none the less!
Lil's has realized that if she stands on her tippy toes she can reach deep inside the cabinet drawers and pull everything out. She is so determine at times to either eat or throw away her finds. I now have to not only make sure the trash can is locked, but to check the trash to make sure nothing has ended up there that shouldn't! She is such a big helper!
I'm not bias here I swear, but we have one smart girl on our hands (ask my husband and he will claim super sperm)...
she will take the caps off of things and put them back on....she will go to a bucket of shoes and pull out the pairs....she will throw trash away .....she will clean up her toys or whatever is messy when you sing the clean up song! Give the girl a towel and she will clean the floors! All I have to teach her is laundry now and I've got myself a
Each day is a new experience with her...she is like a tiny sponge....she absorbs everything we do and tries to imitate us!

I've been doing a ton of baking lately and was hankering for some of my Grandmother's Coffee Cake. I can't believe I didn't pick her brain way back when for some of her recipes to keep for later. I contacted my Aunts and sure enough one of them had it written down! WOOHOO!
Last week I checked my pantry and had everything I needed! Sadly I wish my memories included baking this with Grandma, but I don't remember baking with her...just eating the good stuff! I nearly wept with joy when I tasted the warm cake! It was almost like I was sitting her her kitchen eating a piece w/her all over again! I remember as a little girl sucking in my breath when I took a bite of the crumb topping and I'd cough on the powdered sugar she sprinkled on top. That day I became that little girl again and coughed on my powdered sugar! I baked this on the first day of the kids new school year! They had a yummy treat waiting for them when they came home w/a glass of milk! I told them the story of the coffee cake, but I'm not sure it really stuck like it did with me! Maybe one day my girls will ask me for all the recipes I've collected from family passed on!
Yesterday Little Lil's and I made Jello Cookies! My dear friend and neighbor from the old house used to bake these for us a few times a year! They were the kids and mine absolute favorite cookies! Thankfully the recipe yields 50 b/c they will be gone in a few days!
I thought I would share the recipe along with some photos and the final product! I also wanted to show off my latest (and currently favorite) measuring spoons.....I have an obsession w/measuring spoons....I collect them....Now how many people can you say that about? I like ones from simple to plain to down right unusual! So if you happen to run into some cute/cool ones in your shopping ventures please don't hesitate to call me and let me know where you are!
3 -1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1-1/2 cups (3 sticks) butter, softened (Paula Deen would be proud)
1 cup sugar
6oz pkg of jello, any flavor, divided
1 tsp vanilla
PREHEAT oven to 400°F. Mix flour and baking powder; set aside. Beat butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until creamy.
Gradually add sugar and 1 pkg. of the dry gelatin, beating until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla; mix well. (hey look at my cool spoon)
Gradually add flour mixture, beating until well blended after each addition.
SHAPE dough into 1-inch balls. Place, 2 inches apart, on ungreased baking sheets. Flatten with bottom of clean glass.
Sprinkle with remaining dry gelatin.
BAKE 8 to 10 min. or until edges are lightly browned. Remove from baking sheets to wire racks. Cool completely. Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.
The TBSP says, "A heap of love" the tsp says, "A spoonful of laughter" the 1/2 tsp says, "A dash of kindness" and the 1/4 tsp says, "A pinch of patience"! AWWWWW I love it!!!

I did the only thing I knew of, so I headed for the store and got him some Clearasil Foaming face wash. I proudly displayed it by his sink and waited until the evening to tell him about it. Of course he didn't even notice it and when I pointed it out he asked me why I got him peach colored hand soap.
I explained to him that now that he was getting older he was going to have to take better care of his skin. The kids take their showers at night and I've tried to get them in the habit of washing their faces in the morning before school, but you know how that goes. I told dear son that every morning before he comes downstairs to wash his face w/warm water and use the Clearasil face wash.
A few days later noticed his face looked oily.
Mom: "Gray have you been using your face wash every morning?"
Son: " No, I've been using it at night instead before my shower"
Mom: "That's why I bought it for you...to use every morning since you shower at night"
Son: "Well it made my face sticky so I use it at night"
Mom: "It shouldn't make your face sticky...are you sure you washed of it off completely?"
Son: "I'm supposed to wash it off?"
Mom: (blank stare....cue the cricket sounds)
Son: (blushing and then laughing)
Mom: "Well honey didn't you read the directions?"
Son: "Yes, but I thought it meant to wash it off my hands"
Gotta love him!
See it just goes to show you that no matter what age they are they will always still need us!

First view the photo and then I'll explain
So I walk in the door and daddy walks me over to a napkin on the counter.
Daddy: What do you see?
Me: A dead fly...no wait ...I think he's moving!
Daddy: Do you see anything strange about the fly?
Me: Ummmm no
Daddy: Look closely...he's missing his head.
Me: WHAT? HOW ON EARTH?
Daddy: Your little daughter did it. (I love how she's MY daughter when she did something bad)
Me: How did she chop his head off?
Daddy: Well she was standing over in the window looking outside. She was playing with one of Mini Me's Bella Sara cards and then she saw a fly in the window and started swatting at it. I went over to her and this is what I found. She is a little ninja baby! I couldn't do that in a million years if I tried!
Me: Wow I am totally impressed! I knew she was a rocking baby, but I didn't know she came with talents!
Moral of the story! Don't mess with baby!

Lillian has been growing in leaps and bounds...from sitting to crawling to table foods to just plain silliness!
She is 9.5 months already and speed crawls...pulls up on just about anything from couches, tables, window sills, cabinet doors, and even walls. Most of our cabinets have baby/adult proofing latches. She's a little Houdini at times and can even get those off! I have found her in just about everything and even licking the floor. I have no idea what that is about. There are times I either stand there and chuckle or get totally grossed out! But she is darn cute doing it.
At her 9m well baby check up she was 28.5" tall and weighed 20.3 lbs!
Lily's Activities as of 9 months
- She plays tug of war w/the dog's chew bones....yes, she has even licked and chewed them herself
- Crawls at the speed of light. When she needs to pick up speed she pushes off with her right foot. So it's right foot...left knee...right foot...left knee. It's a scream to watch!
- Pulls up on everything
- Can say a few words/signs: Mama, Dada, bye bye (waves), ceiling fan (signs too), na-na (not sure but she uses it a lot)
- Claps (as of 2 days ago)
- She's a really great eater! loves to try everything
- Loves to mimic...esp coughing or gagging! She thinks it is funny
- Bath time she pretends to swim
- Speaking of swimming...loves going to the pool! We can't get her out!
- Loves to dance (see video below)
- Loves pushing her babies around in the baby buggy
- Shreds magazines or napkins
- Chews on her bed rails (see blog entry below)
- Loves little children/babies
- Helping w/just about every chore I do
- Loves Itsy Bitsy Spider
- Loves blowing raspberries ...even if there is food in her mouth
- Screams and tries to pinch you when you take something away from her
- She is scared spitless of the vacuum cleaner
- When she puts herself to sleep (ok I lied...when I nurse her to sleep) she knots her hands in my hair and tugs. I think I'm bald in some spots
- After bath time we have a routine of cleaning nose/ears/putting lotion on/brushing teeth/brushing hair. She makes the funniest sounds when cleaning her nose! She is a pampered princess
- HATES HATES HATES RIDING IN A CAR. (gonna be the death of me)
- Still is not sleeping through the night
- Loves cell phones so she has 3 play ones of her own!

Last week two of her buddy's came over to play and we turned it into a "PHOTO SHOOT". Whew who knew posing 3 babies could be so much work. We were all jumping up and down...clapping and yelling to get their attention! Ha...at the end of it we were all sweating! Here were our results! Thanks to Brayden and little 9 week old Raleigh.

The other day Mini Me and I were at Target (our 2nd home) and we were doing our weekly shopping. I was picking up some turkey and ham for their lunches for the week and commented on how we needed bread.
Mini Me: " When are you going to give me another knuckle sandwich?"
Me: (looks around at the ppl around us perking up to the conversation) me in my sweet 'what are you talking about voice' "A knuckle sandwich what are you talking about???
Mini Me: " the other day you gave me one...give me another one mom"
Me: Ok by this point I'm totally red in the face wondering what on earth these ppl think of this little girl's mother giving her a knuckle sandwich. "Kate, what are you talking about..mommy has never hit you"
Mini Me: "Mom...remember the other day when you gave me the ends of the bread for a sandwich? The knuckles of the bread?"
Me: "hahhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaahhhaaa Honey that is the HEEL of the bread...not the knuckle"
Gotta love the mind of an 8 year old girl!

Lily is discovering all sorts of new things...
She enjoys swatting at her toys and trying to grab everything and bring it to her mouth. If she can grab it she can eat it!!
Her sleeping patterns are becoming more predictable! WOOHOO
Lily is still having 30 min cat naps during the day, but at night she is starting to become that angel I always knew she was...she is heading to bed by 8 and sleeping until 5ish and back down again until 8am!
Words can't describe what a joy she is. Never a dull moment! I can't begin to express how blessed I am at what a happy and calm baby she is! She can sing too....I know what you're thinking, but when I sing to her she will hum w/me...
She is easy to please...loves being held....laughs easily...loves bath time...loves being tickled and talked to...life w/Lily is amazing!
One of my favorite moments w/her is first thing in the morning. She will be talking up a storm and when she sees you enter the room she laughs and grins!
I can't wait to see what the next 4 months has in store
Gotta love postpartum hair loss right? So far w/each baby I have lost hair... The rate it comes out you would think I'd be bald...but I'm not....not yet! I hate when the hair starts to grow back on the forehead...I currently do not have bangs until the 'new growth' comes in. Then I get those stupid...."did you cut bangs" questions...no stupid I did not cut my hair to have 1" of bangs!
They say pregnant woman have such thick beautiful hair....That must be b/c it does not fall out until after the baby!...Mine started about 3 weeks ago...I'll let you know when it quits!
NOTE TO HUSBAND: No honey I'm not washing it down the drain!

Christmas was a great time to see all the family again. My parents came into town for a few days. Then one night my in laws, my parents, and my brother and his wife came over for dinner and Wii games. My niece Claire enjoyed holding baby Lily and I actually got a group shot of the gang!
Christmas Eve B's brother/wife and their 4 kids came to town!!! Whew!
Update on the kids...
Grayson got the Taj Mahal he had been dying for. He actually saved his money for this one. It had over 5000 pieces. 5922 to be exact!
It took him a little over 4 days to complete....needless to say we did not see much of him during the holiday break.
Jake's best friend moved to the neighborhood down the road from us....pretty sad time for him since they were at each others house constantly. He now just mopes around. I can usually find him off on his bike somewhere though hanging w/the other neighborhood boys. Every other day that child is losing a tooth!! He's making a killing off the tooth fairy!
Princess Katelyn Kate Katie pie is about to be 8. Her birthday is coming up on the 26th and so we...or should I say SHE has been busy planning it. Kate is still all girl and I love every second of that. She is very much into clothes and purses right now!! Thankfully she is still into barbies and playing pretend. I am keeping her a little girl for as long as I can!
Kate is taking to her role of Big Sister really well....we have our moments when I realize she needs some extra attention, but I try to let her feel involved as much as possible. She is going to be a terrific mommy one day.
As for the youngest one of the bunch...Miss Lillian
She is growing so quickly that if you blink you might miss it!! She rolls from tummy to back...not all the time, but when she feels like it. I've realized we are on Lily Time. She just started swatting at toys hanging over her and grabs to put everything in her mouth!! We have just ordered some new toy rattles that she can bang away on and put in her mouth to so serious chewing!! Lily has a ton of tickle spots and has the most incredible laugh....
She talks...and sings....and is the most amazing baby!!! Lily pretty much sleeps through the night...She usually goes down by 9:30 or 10 and sleeps until 6 or 7 and then back down again for a few hours. Night time is the hardest time though...she fights sleep...I will notice that she starts to get tired after her bath...around 8ish she will start yawning and rubbing her eyes and burying her face in my shoulder...I will head upstairs and nurse her and rock her, but she fights sleep. As soon as I lay her down she wakes...this process starts all over until she fusses...fidgets....sucks...fusses...fidgets and then passes out around 10. I am hoping this phase does not last long. Morning time is great!! She is such a joy though when she wakes up....talking and playing and laughing...I love to go in there and peek over the crib and see her smile! She brightens any room!
The other day I ran across an outfit that was Kate's....I dressed Lily in it and took her picture...Here is the photo to match Kate's. Granted Kate was 6m and Lily is only 3m, but I think they look a little alike.
(Kate's photo is on top)
Over all life is pretty darn good right now...I've got no complaints! ok maybe I could stand to lose a few pounds... and get a pedicure....cover my grays....clean my house a bit more....zap laundry before it piles up.......
