Where's My Mullet?

(The Mullet)
I wouldn't say Lily has a full head of hair, but we were finally getting somewhere. From bald at birth to hair today...hey that's an improvement.

Only problem was she was growing this tail, a mullet if you will, off the back of her head. I did complain a lot about it to the hubs. But I also loved making it into a ponytail...only wishing she would let me put things in her hair. She doesn't mind me brushing it and making her pretty, it's the putting pretty ribbons and bows and what nots that make her angry!

So a couple of nights ago she's sitting in her chair eating her dinner and boom...hubs just walks up w/scissors and CUT

( I wet and brushed to see how bad a job he did)

conversation follows something like this

hubs: "cut her mullet off"

hubs "haven't you been complaining about it non stop? I cut it off for you"

me " but you didn't let me...and I didn't get before pictures....and I wasn't really sure I wanted it off....and I didn't get to wet and comb it down and cut a straight just whacked could you not warn me....ohhhh look at her she looks like a boy....wait...i want the mullet back...."

hubs (stands looking at me like i'm insane) "YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T WANT THE MULLET SO I TOOK CARE OF THE MULLET. Why did you want before and after photos?"

me "for my blog...errr for her baby book"

hub "baby book? ha ha.... well ok here is the chunk of mean add that to the book!"

I think I was angry b/c I wanted to do it. Well I want her mullet back. She looks weird. I miss how it curled at the bottom. Deep sigh!

Moist and MMMM MMMM Good!

I've mentioned it before..My in laws come over every Wednesday for dinner and dessert. I am blessed that they put up w/me come over because the kids love it and I love cooking for crowds (no surprise there). They will take Lily on a walk after dinner to give me a chance to clean up. I can truly say I LOVE MY IN LAWS (and no they don't read my blog) haha

Every week I try a new dessert out. This week it was from Gooseberry Patch
Peanut Butter Texas Sheet Cake
(Gooseberry Patch photo)

You will not go wrong with this cake. Gotta love Texas Sheet cakes....
This by far was the moistest cake I have had in ages. The icing was easy peasy to make and this cake got 5 stars from our family. I had all the ingredients on hand and it was quicker than a box cake! Please give this a try for all those peanut butter lovers. Mild in peanut butter flavor so no worries!

Tonight on the menu?
another Gooseberry Patch recipe from the new cookbook
French Dip au Jus

It's one of my hubby's favorite sandwiches and since this cooks in the slow cooker for 10 hrs how much easier could it be for me today?
Sides? Kids want rippled chips haha
The hubs and I are having

Cilantro-Jalapeno Slaw
slaw mix
2 jalapenos chopped (we keep the seeds in for heat)
1 tb chopped fresh cilantro
I'm just gonna add oil and vinegar for a dressing!

Tongue Twister...What's Your Talent?

What's your talent? I've got friends that can sing like an angel...or sew dresses fit for Queens...or cook to compete w/Emeril....or dance w/grace and elegance like the girls on Dancing w/the Stars....

Me? I've got zero creative talents to speak of...I usually use others ideas and embellish them for my own.....I can cook...but not for Kings....I can sew.... but only a straight line...and I have 2 left feet when it comes to dancing. (sorry hun)

I do know my Doctor way back when told me I had good hips for birthin babies! Does that count as a talent?

Well I do love being a Wife and Mommy..... but I don't really think that that is considered a talent...

So I thought I would post a talent my children think I am awesome at....

My tongue makes what the kids call a "flower cup" ....there you go...I knew I had a talent in me.
All joking aside...God gave us all talents to use...I worry at times I have one that I'm not aware of and not using what God gave me.....Hubby says I'm a nurturer by nature and that is a talent....or the kids say I make them laugh ...and that's a talent (little do they know they are the ones making me laugh) Hubs says that's another trait...making people feel at ease. I'm still thinking though....
What's your talent?

A little Whoopie for your Monday!

Sometimes in our house we have "make your own pizza night" Each child can have their own mini pizza w/whatever toppings they like on it...

Well each week I have a list on the fridge w/the days of the week...the kids just look at whatever day they want and know what's for dinner. (I basically got tired of them asking me and hey it helps remember myself) Friday's meal said "Make Your Own Pizza"
I overheard Mini Me tell her brother..."I don't know why she calls it that...we never get to make our own anyways"

(mom covers her face embarrassed)

Ha ha started off when I surprised them w/the pizzas and then another day where they were playing and I got dinner started...and then it just became easier for me to do it....oops! Bad mommy!

Well I've got a trick and treat waiting for the kids when they come home...
the trick.....(look closely)

Now the treat!

Raspberry-Lemon Whoopie Pies

Tonight's meal...A variation of
Chicken Divan

I love being a Mom!

Happy Monday to you!

My Men are Easy to Please...

Yesterday I mentioned a Crunchy Slaw and a crock pot chocolate candy....well add to that
3 Ingredient Sausage Squares for your Recipes!!

The crunchy slaw and crock pot recipes are both from Trisha Yearwood's new cookbook.

My husband loves the slaw so much he asked for it 2 times this week and again for it to be on the menu for next week...
1 head green cabbage, finely chopped (I used the prepackaged bag of slaw)

8 green onions, finely chopped

½ cup sliced almonds
½ cup sesame seeds

¼ cup (½ stick) butter
2 3-oz packages ramen noodles, flavor packets discarded

2 Tbsp sugar

½ cup vegetable oil

3 Tbsp red wine vinegar

1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
Mix the cabbage and green onions in a large bowl. In a small saucepan over medium heat, brown the almonds and sesame seeds in the butter.

Combine the dressing ingredients in a small bowl and stir well. Just before serving, add the sesame seeds, almonds, and crushed raw ramen noodles to the cabbage and green onions.

Pour the dressing, a little at a time, over the salad mix, then toss. Serves 10 to 12.

All I can say is I am so glad I made this...add some grilled Chicken on top for a complete meal...or have it accompany w/some BBQ! This is my new favorite!!!

Crock Pot Chocolate Candy

2 lbs (36 oz) salted dry-roasted peanuts

4 oz (4 squares) German's sweet chocolate

1 12-oz package semisweet chocolate chips (about 2 cups)

2½ lbs white almond bark

1. Put the peanuts in the bottom of a 4-quart slow-cooker. Layer the chocolate over the peanuts, beginning with the sweet chocolate, followed by the chocolate chips, and then the almond bark. Set the temperature on low and cook for 3 hours. Do not stir the mixture.

2. After 3 hours, stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until smooth. Drop the candy into cupcake pan liners, using about 2 tablespoons per liner.
Allow the candy to cool completely before removing the cupcake liners. Makes 30 to 40 pieces.

SIDE NOTE.....I thought 2lbs of peanuts was a bit much and only added 1lb and should have decreased the white bark....
I used an ice scoop to put the chocolate in the muffins tins w/paper liners! I personally only liked the melted chocolate....wasn't a fan of the candy once it hardened. BUT MY KIDS AND THE NEIGHBORS AND MY HUSBAND WENT TO TOWN ON THEM! so maybe I was having an off day!!
It was quick and easy to make...and really fun too!

For breakfast this morning it was back to Gooseberry Patch Quick and Easy Family Favorite Book

3 Ingredient Sausage Squares (although I made it 4...I added cheese)

2 80z crescent rolls tubes
2 8oz cream cheese (softened)
2 lbs ground sausage

optional cheese

Brown the sausage (for adults try 1 hot and 1 regular) drain,
Mix sausage w/the cream cheese (and 1 cup shredded cheese...if you want)

The recipe calls for a 13x9, but if using this size you might one more can of crescent rolls ..2 didn't stretch very well up the sides.

In a greased 13x9 pan stretch one tube of crescent rolls on bottom and a little up the sides of the dish. Press seams together.
Spread meat mixture on top
Finally add last crescent rolls on top

Bake 350 for 15-20 mins

Serve w/a side of fruit. My husbands and boys ate this up this morning!

Lilly Pulitzer and My New Found Loves!

Being a Southern Gal ...who doesn't love a little Lilly Pulitzer? I do, but alas the price tag is higher than I'd like it to be. I'd kill for a summer LillyP sundress!....But for all those fans...Look what I ran across while at Market Street yesterday?? A Limited Edition box of Animal Crackers!

Now on to recipes! For my birthday my family gave me some ceramic bake ware from Giada de Laurentiis. I love love her show and noticed Target started carrying things in her name. Now why she doesn't use them on the show is beyond me (do they ever??!!!)
I got a ceramic casserole dish, pie plate, loaf pan, 20 oz mug, and 2 custard cups. (not sure why 2 I mean come on Giada's ppl)

Yesterday my bananas were dead (as the kids say) and so I baked a loaf of Nana Bread in my new pan! It turned out gorgeous! That's when I got all excited about cooking dinner! I was going to use my new ceramic casserole dish for

Virginia's Spaghetti Bake

I know you mostly hear me talking up my Southern Living cookbooks and magazine, but what Southern kitchen is complete w/o your Gooseberry Patch cookbooks too!

I have a few ....Family Dinners and Quick and Easy (just came in the mail yesterday)

Hubs loves the Virginia's Bake and I know you will too! The cheese layer makes this dish fantastic! You can make it ahead and pop it in the fridge until later!!

Combine spaghetti noodles, spaghetti sauce and ground beef in a large bowl; set aside.

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; add flour, parmesan cheese, salt and garlic powder, stirring constantly until smooth and bubbly. Add evaporated milk and one cup cheddar cheese; stir until thickened.

(notice how I sticky my recipes to my cabinets so I can make for faster reading! Ha ha)

Pour half of spaghetti noodle mixture into a greased 13x9" casserole dish and pour cheese mixture over top. Pour remaining noodle mixture into dish; top with remaining 2 cups cheddar cheese. Bake at 350* for 25-30 minutes.

Side note on this recipe. For a change in flavor...add either 1lb meat and 1lb ground sausage or 2lbs ground sausage! YUMMO
On the cheese layer...I like to melt the butter...then add the flour...melt and stir AND THEN add the parm/salt/garlic powder. Then eva milk and cheddar cheese.....
Seems to work out better this way...but do what you like best!

I also have a crunchy slaw and crock pot chocolate candy I'd like to share! Hubby has gone bananas on my slaw that he asked for it 3 times this week!!! Made it into a meal one night w/some sliced grilled chicken over it! Yummm

Point of the ceramic story? Yes I had a point.... I AM IN LOVE W/CERAMICS FOR BAKING! I think I'll have to add them to my Mother's Day List for more!!!

You Know You're A Mom When.......

You go to put your shoes on and hear a squish and find yesterday mac n cheese inside

You go to grab the handle on the drawer pull in the kitchen and find sticky gramham crumbs

You kick yourself for trying to teach the boys to put the lid down...not realizing they will be too lazy to lift it and pee on the seat. You know this b/c when you sit the seat is wet!

You have one peppermint left and your breath is really stinky, but your child has that..."Mommy aren't I an angel" look about them so you give up the mint and try not to breathe on people.

When your child is a cosleeper and you sleep in the worst position possible b/c they have finally fallen asleep ...and the next day you walk around like an old hag b/c your back and neck have a crick in them...

you find melted crayon in your dryer b/c you were too tired (or just plum forgot) to check the pockets yet again

Instead of having one of the top 10 country songs stuck in your head all day you're singing the theme song to the cartoon "Arthur" from PBS and like it!

You now have super sonic hearing and eyes in the back of your head (according to your kids) You don't care to let the secret of mirrors and good ear cleanings are your tricks.

You get startled awake by that little figure standing beside your bed in the middle of the night. One of your kids telling you they can't sleep......that makes 2 of you now!

You used to think coffee was it's your best friend

You learn to let it go when after a full day of mopping the kids can walk in the door from school and mess it all up in 5 secs flat

You forget to snap back one side of your nursing tank and now know where that cool breeze was coming from while running your errands.

You are no longer can now pee and shower with an audience.

Speaking of have now perfected a shower in under 4 minutes flat!

You find yourself saying "Because I said so"

(don't forget about the Lisa Leonard necklace Giveaway)

Lisa Leonard Giveaway!!!!!!

Who doesn't ♥ Lisa Leonard's gorgeous jewelry? Well here's your chance to win a "Marked by Love" necklace!!!

When we miscarried baby #5 (prayers please because we are trying again) I was devastated! I thought for sure they didn't have a clue what they were talking about...I mean I had 4 healthy easy pregnancies before why should this baby be any different? But at my 10 week appt they gave me a different story! The baby's heart wasn't beating. I don't remember what they said after those words ..... I let it sink in when my husband I were alone together. "I want our baby......I wanted this baby so badly.....Why us...why this baby???"

But then I was reminded...God is Good. He knows the desires of our heart and what we are capable of ....He felt our little one wasn't ready and was called home. (hubby secretly hopes for twins extra bonus for the one lost ha ha)
We told people at 6 weeks of this pregnancy and had to go through the explanations...It really helped hearing others tell their stories of loss and then next the praise of a healthy baby, so I remain hopeful!
I know how blessed I was to carry that baby no matter how short that time was. Babies are a blessing (no matter how they get here or who carries them) This baby was loved before it was even conceived and still now after.

I wanted a way to keep that baby close to my heart...and then I remembered Lisa's necklace "Marked by Love" inspired by Audrey Caroline's story (I added an extra pearl to mine for $7 extra and engraved the words Forever Ours on the back)
( I love her mad dog angry grrrr look while taking pictures)

Lisa was kind enough to let me give one of you lucky people your own "Marked by Love" necklace.

1. Head on over to Lisa's site and tell me your favorite piece
2. Follow Lisa on twitter
3. Follow my blog
4. Blog about the giveaway

From Thanks to Pranks

I want to give a "Peppy Preppy Shout Out" to Margaret at or head to her website to see her 2 Preppy Monogrammed items! (I want her whole site)
Margaret was kind enough to send me this adorable monogrammed hat to cover up on my walks w/my bestie. Skin cancer hasn't been kind to me lately and SPF 30+ and hats are a must for me! Now I can walk in style! I can't thank her enough! It's like my birthday all over again!!

My oldest child is such a prankster. You really have to be on your toes when he is around because you never know what you will find. When his brother and sister are asleep he does all kind of funny things to them. Ties their hands together...tapes Saran Wrap to their doors so when they wake up and leave their room they hit the wrap. Or the "You're next if you don't drink your milk" story that he did to Kate.

Oldest child will leave little stuff around the house to make me giggle before he leaves for school. One time he left a freaky picture of a Half chicken half hippo (HippoChicken) on my laptop background...ha ha ...or the time he left a huge rubber spider in the washer for me to find when I was doing laundry. Or I have glass canisters w/little spots for labeling with chalk. One of my jars says, "Baby Snacks" He came in and erased the Snacks and put "Rats". I didn't notice that one until a friend was over and said ..."ewwww gross Baby Rats" ha ha....

The list could go on....but yesterday I found something amiss. I left all my birthday tissue balls hanging from the ceiling from my party a few weeks ago. The kids and hubby wonder why...I said b/c the month isn't over and I'm still celebrating! :o) I came home from dropping oldest off at school and this is what I found stuck in one of the balls! ha ha As simple as that he can make his mommy giggle! A Pencil!

I'm NOT Sorry If This Offends You

I was at the grocery store early this morning (like usual)….Today when I was checking out the lady in front of me was complaining…shesh really? It’s only Monday..anyways she was complaining about how ungrateful her children were…esp when it came to food. She told them she wasn’t going to buy anymore food until they ate all the other stuff. She said she was sick of wasting food (ok I get this part), but she said finally they were down to nothing and so she had to shop. She said ‘my house is a mess too because what am I …? Everyone’s maid?’ Umm yeah you kind of are. I mean no, your kids don’t have to be lazy and selfish and not take care of their things or help pick up messes, but yes you are …maid, cook, child care provider, chauffeur, dry cleaner, garbage man, pooper scooper…you see my point I’m sure I’m missing something. Heck fire, what did she think the job description of Stay at home Mom and Wife entailed….? Sitting on her butt all day and complaining?

I got asked one time: "What are you going to do once the kids are in school or grown and gone from the house? "

My job is never ending no matter who is home during the day with me. I will still need to wash sheets and towels. The clothes will still need to be laundered. I will still need to go to the grocery store to prepare meals for the week. I will still need to dust/mop/sweep/iron/scrub toilets/do the baseboards/take out the trash/collect the mail/clean fridge out/wipe down appliances.....
the list could go on.

My time is more important than any dollar amount I can bring to my family. Are we rich? Heck no! Do we struggle? At times, but that is why we budget and don't live beyond our means. I would love to have extra cash lying around to buy my hubby that new pickup truck he wants...or buy my kids the latest and greatest toys, but I can't. I want my family to know how much more important family is than material things. Those material things don't's a quick fix. Something newer and better or faster is sure to come out before the dust collects, but yet family never gets old or outdated. My point job is never ending and I knew this when I signed up for the task. I do my "JOB" with a happy heart and can't wait to spend the rest of my life doing it! I know that when I serve my Husband I am serving and pleasing God. That is all I could ask for. I want to honor my family and raise my children to love God. I pray that by example they will grow up to be strong ppl.

As for my oldest daughter? She wants to be just like me. Here in the home serving her family. She sees me being a SAHM with a smile on my face and love in my heart. I am honored that she would take after me. I know her husband will know how blessed he is to have a woman by his side honoring and serving him too!

When the kids are grown and out of the house starting their own families I will still be the SAHW my husband needs and has come to depend on.
I have given up nothing to be what I am today. It makes my heart hurt to hear other mother's say they are bored...or that they will not give up who they are to stay home...or that they need to prove to the world/other men that they can too work and have a family.

Men and women are designed differently for a reason. A man's body was built for hard work and war. A woman's was made for birthin them babies (grins) and tending to the home. We have a gentle feminine side and men have the rough and rugged side. Thank goodness for that...
I love making my home a place my husband wants to come home to. The place he craves at the end of the day. I love seeing his worries fall off his shoulders when he enters the door to his home knowing he can sit and relax with his family b/c I have done everything to make that possible. So what will I be doing once the kids are gone? Exactly what I am doing now!

Letter To Younger Self

You know we all wish we could write a letter to our younger self warning us of certain experiences that took placed in our life. Sadly, if we knew the future self we wouldn't be the person we are today....You've got to walk through a bit of mud to find the clean side sometimes...

BUT...if I could send myself a letter it would probably read something like this

Dear Little Laura,

There are some things I really need to tell you before they happen.....a warning you could say....

1. The fact that you never got pimples as a teen ...well kiss those days goodbye in your 20's and really bad in your 30's. I think it might be pay back for all the times your friends called you porcelain face...and you could never understand why the girls had face scrubs and pimple creams.
I have no idea how to handle them now, but make sure you find a good cleanser and stick with it.

2. Enjoy the allergy free youth because after you have children (and yes you have many...yea) your body chemistry changes and you suffer from march-may. Your head will feel like exploding and your face feels puffy all day from drainage. Sorry nothing you can do about it then.

3. You know those fat chubby boys who are nerds? Well stick with them...they will actually grow up to be hunky smart caring God fearing men! Future husband material (I know boys are yucky now, but they won't always be)

4. The sunny afternoon when you were in 4th grade and found a 4 leaf clover and knew that meant you were going to marry Jason Rogers. Well .....sorry he never really liked you and he grew up to marry another girl. (It's ok...he wasn't the one for you)

5. There will be a day when you think closing your eyes while trying to walk home from Ashley's house will be a good idea because you know the path home....UMMM not so good. You forgot to calculate you can't walk a straight line and hit a mailbox on the way home.

6. When your mom tells you not to get dirty because y'all are leaving for dinner soon. Take heed. You think jumping on a rope swinging over the creek was a fine idea. Only you forgot to let go on the other side...and you stopped swinging over the creek and had to let go b/c you couldn't hold on much longer. Note...don't go to creek!

7. When your best friend April moves in the 8th grade to Indonesia....don't worry...You will find her 20 years later and reconnect and she will tell you a story that fills you with joy! Worth the wait!

8. You think you're fat....well you are perfect. Always remember that!

9. Your mother really is going to be your best friend one day! Tell her how much you love her now!

10. Boys chase you because they like you.....they get a little rough playing tag...but don't worry...they don't mean to be.

11. Eating too much spaghetti because you want that sucker after dinner really isn't worth it. Trust me on this one.

12. Pay more attention when you stepmother teaches you to sew....she is a genius and you need to learn.

13. Instead of taking Spanish in high school, take French.....(your future husband can speak it and it sounds romantic)

14. When Chad Rippey tries to teach you to 2 step don't give up. One day your future husband will be a fantastic dancer and you want to impress him.

15. Be nicer to your brother would ya?! He's really a terrific guy even if he's a boy!

16. Lastly, keep playing baby dolls...all that practice comes in handy!

Top Two Tuesday

Ok it's Bestie's Tuesday Time...head on over to her blog for a good topic! Top 2 Favorite Beauty Secrets. Goodness knows I need some help!

I had to think really hard on this one....Since I don't wear much make up during the day and sadly don't have a great routine at night other than NEVER GO TO BED UNTIL YOU CLEAN YOUR FACE....

1. Biosilk Products

I love love love the smell of these products...I can't get enough of them! I love the Biosilk Oil. I put it on my wet hair and any left over oil on my hands I rub on my skin! MMMMMMMMM good! I will sometimes use a little to tame any fly aways after I'm finished styling my hair. My hubby loves smelling my hair...hey any excuse for more hugs!

2. Visual Changes Ultra Protection SPF30

I know most don't even give daily sunscreen a thought. I know I didn't a few years back...but then I got stage 2 skin cancer on my leg. I thought I don't use tanning beds or tan outside...I'm dark haired and not fair skinned...but hey it doesn't seem partial to who gets it. I get checked twice a year (by my hottie dermotologist) and have yet again had skin cancer...stage one this time..not quite as big as a scar like the first one. Better safe than sorry my friends!! I tried a ton of lotions and ended up greasy or smelly! Until I found Visual Changes Clinical Skin Care products. A little pricey but worth more than more scars!!
So Please cover up daily!!! laptop is finally fixed and ready for pickup! Hubs is heading there after work to get her! ROCK ON

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME...weekend recap!

(I'd like to comment this is a rare photo of my husband half smiling...he always ruins the pictures of us)

What a birthday weekend it was. Friday night The Besties came over for dinner and chatting...sort of like a pre-birthday get together! We took pics of the girls in their new cowboy boots and had them dancing to a little CMT!

Saturday my parents came into town and I bolted for the nail salon for a Pedicure! WOOHOO my toes are sporting their typical french style and I got a nice quick pamper Me time.
Rushed home and dressed in my new dress...and finished decorating the house.

Family and Besties arrived by 5 for a massive dinner and dessert fest! We catered Buca di Beppo...way too too much food mind you and finished it with my Chocolate Torte and Triple Decker Strawberry cake! I promise you will not be disappointed in either one of those recipes! I heard a chorus of moans as they were biting into the Torte.

Polished off the night w/a little country 2stepin in the driveway! Nothing like perfect weather w/the perfect kick off my 36th year!
