Home Tour Tuesday: My Peaceful Place

Today over at Home Tour Tuesday...the topic is "MY PEACEFUL PLACE" in our home.
Now keep in mind I'm a mommy of soon to be 5 so those kind of things for me are few and far between...I mean hello? Peaceful and MY PLACE....nothing is peaceful in the house except after the hours of 11pm....and nothing is mine anymore....Really? When you're a mom you give all that stuff up. If you don't then your a bad mom! (if you felt guilt reading that...not my fault) haha Kidding........(sort of)

Now now No laughing...I'll show you mine and explain.....
It's the guest bathroom. You see this is my sanctuary of getting 5-10 mins away from the kids. If I head upstairs it's like they have radar....if I stay downstairs they may not know. The 5-10 mins is....if they don't notice me after 5 mins...then I have another 5...equals 10....get it? Most of the time they DO notice me. What is it about kids when mom moves it's like all eyes get on us?

So here's the best part...I usually lie.....yep moms lie. I mean who wants to see their mom in the bathroom? My boys sure don't...Mini Me is indifferent...and Lily would hang on my legs no matter what it is I'm doing...she hates me out of her sight! Behind the potty is a basket of magazines and books...THAT'S MY STASH...some ppl horde candy...I'm hording books. Right now I'm on book 4 of Nora Roberts Bride Quartet series!

So there you have it....I'm a Liar! Yes sometimes I really do need to go......but most of the time I'm faking it.....shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It's That Time Again!!!

Every Monday night in our house during Advent time...we have a devotion to prepare us for the big EVENT to come on Dec 24/25.....and end it w/a special treat and drink and candle lighting! My wreath is nothing fancy...just the circle green wreath (symbolizing God never changes and is eternal and no beginning and no end) and the candles...3 purple (time to prepare) 1 pink (the joy is near) and white (the day is here)

We've been doing this w/the kids for the past 5 years and realized that the snack/drink comes after devotion! Ha ha....learned the hard way!

Each child gets to help light the candles and blow them out each week!

Tonight's special treat....

Hazelnut Cookies w/hot chocolate for the drink

here's the recipe!!!

One year we did cake balls..my first attempt...the kids loved them!

Cake Balls blog look how little lily was!!!

Each year during the Advent time I try and do a different treat each week...unless kids specify a special favorite. One special drink is the Peppermint Chocolate Milk from Target...I've got to head there tomorrow to grab some for next weeks drink!!!

My friend Shannon over at Webbisodes does a link up on every Tuesday....don't miss out tomorrow's topic

Tomorrow's Home Tour Tuesday topic: My peaceful place (Where do you go to relax and unwind?) Come by tomorrow morning to link up.

(mines a good one haha)

Also Mrs Shannon is doing an Ornament Exchange..if you're into that sign up! I can't wait!

30 Weeks down....10 More to Go (Attitude Ahead)

(sorry in advance for the attitude....I'm moody...I should have my game back next week? Right? Hopefully!)

Whew! I'm 30 weeks today...and yes starting to feel it. I told my friend who had her 5th 3 months ago that she's right! You see when I saw her this summer I asked her how it was going. She said...."well it's harder by the 5th....I don't feel as quick and chipper as I used to...I hurt more" I remember thinking...WHATEVER...we did fine w/1-4 why on earth would #5 be different.

Oh yeah right...we're another year older (I'm 36 thank you) and this is after all our 5th. I guess I truly thought it would be a breeze.

But man I tell ya I'm really feeling it. Carrying Lily up and down the stairs daily...or just carrying her period is starting to take a toll on me. By 10pm I'm ready to pass out! I ache in places I forgot existed! I'm winded easier and I'm remembing how the baby actually 'comes out' and realized I'm sooooo behind on practicing some Hypnobabies!

I had a dream last night I went into labor and I wasn't prepared. I remember telling ppl that I had things to do and couldn't possibly give birth just yet.

I don't think labor works like that!!!

I feel like I've lost my Laura MoJo...I'm not as chipper and quick as I used to be and my temper lost it's wick...I'd kill for a weekend free of anything but a book and a bed! Hubs reminds me that can be possible in about 18 years.

Sorry no new photo.....here's the one from the shower...Deal with it (see isn't my attitude lovely today?)

I always see those questions pregnant mommas fill out...this will be my first...

DATE: November 24, 2010

How far along: 30 weeks

Total Weight Gained: 30 pounds…..It's that just grand!

How big is baby?

Baby's now the size of a squash!
As baby's skin smoothes out, her brain just keeps getting more wrinkled. All those grooves and indentations increase surface area, meaning more room for that oh-so-essential brain tissue. She's also adding some brawn -- her grip is now strong enough to grasp a finger.

Maternity Clothes: yep!

Sleep: I haven't known this word since Lillian was born....she now heads to be around 10pm...

Best Moment of the Week: Ummm I need to get back to you. I a downer!

Movement: oh yes….always! Lots of kicks to the bladder...and I think baby Reid makes snow angels in my belly! I swear I feel arms and legs in every corner of my stomach!

Food Craving: No, I just love food, but acid reflux makes food suck.

Food Aversions: Nope.....still hated all the things I hated before! :o)

Morning Sickness: Nope....but got vertigo and tummy aches....making being a mommy to 4 a bit harder this week

Gender: Cowboy!

Symptoms: heartburn, difficulty sleeping, numbness under rib cage, bathroom trips, back aches, swelling of cankles...the list could go on but I don't bore you any longer

What I miss: bending over......taking a deep breath....and not having boobs the size of dolly parton!

What I'm looking forward to: Midwife appt next week......I always love hearing his heartbeat. Besides...sometimes a hug from your baby dr makes you feel better!

DID I MENTION I WON A BIRTHING SKIRT? It's waiting for me at the midwife! I entered a blog for a giveaway of a

Binsi Prima Mama Birth Skirt

she contacted me to say I won. Sooo I guess things aren't too bad! I wanted one of those so badly when pregnant w/Lillian!

Have a terrific Turkey Day tomorrow! I've got most of my prep work done!!!

Home Tour Tuesday: I'm Thankful For......

Hey this is the 2nd week now for Home Tour Tuesday w/Shannon and Daphne....head over to link up!

Today is .......what we are thankful for around the house...and hubs and kids are off limits!

Mine were super easy!

1. Having 2 washers and Dryers

Keep in mind when hubs and I married we both had a set. Why sell one right?! So we just put an extra hookup in the garage! I tell you it's been the greatest thing in the world! When you have a big family the extra machines help! (I will admit that there are times I have forgotten loads out there and have had to restart many many times)

One day I'll get around to decorating the laundry room. I would love a cheery place to stand and fold multiple loads a day! I'm thankful for a utility room that is big enough to stand in. The last one was a challenge. Now I have an extra fridge and even another storage/pantry shelf in there too! The only thing missing is a sink! :o)

As for the garage..hey it's a garage....I'm thankful for the Ikea shelf for extra storage of pool towels and reusable sacks! (thanks to this picture..it made me realize trash day is today and so now the picture would be void of trash cans if I had waited and taken the picture later...sorry...keeping it real hahahaha)

2. The kids Cubby/Shoe Storage area

There was just a bench there....what's a mom to do? Get cubbies! Each kid (including Reid...well he will when the oldest compresses his 2 far right cubbies into one!) This is when you walk in the door from the garage...each kid has a bucket underneath for shoes....but as you can see they find their way up too! The coats and lunches and schoolwork go in the upper cubbies...w/hats and gloves on top in a bowl! No more searching. I thought this would stop the "MOM WHERE ARE MY SHOES, LUNCH OR COAT....." but ah nope! A girl can try!

My usual answer "Check your cubby....because that's where it should be"

Baby Shower and Dinner Momma's Cravin

My sweet friends Tara and Rosalyn threw baby Reid a Baby Shower yesterday.....with the busy schedule of the holidays (thanksgiving, Christmas, and new years) this was the only time to fit one in for baby boy! It's been over 12 years since a little baby boy graced our hallways and I'm getting all uber excited!

Here are some pics from yesterday! Tara's sister Tanya made the cake and the adorable Western bib, travel wipes container, booties, and hat!....and Tara and her sis made the adorable Cowboy Diaper cake! My dear friend Hannah made Lily the pink and choc blanket for her baby shower...and now a cowprint one for Reid! Special gifts!!!

Thanks for a lovely day girls!

Now this picture is of Tara and my belly! Odd I know, but you have to understand we were pregnant w/#4 babies together and did a photo like this....now we are 2 days apart w/#5....it was only fitting! We look like twins!

I woke up w/vertigo in the middle of the night...fell over when getting out of bed for my many trips to the bathroom...Was sleeping in a rocking boat (felt like it) all night and thankfully only have half the off balance issue today! I don't think I'll be doing any swing dancing today! I haven't had a bad attack since our anniversary last year...and I'm not looking for a repeat! I usually have a mild vertigo on a daily basis...I used to take Dramamine daily, but have since quit and just deal b/c the med makes me feel loopy! Not a good thing for a mom with kids. Even the simple task of pulling clothes from the washer and throwing into the dryer could make me feel nauseous and start feeling hot. With each pregnancy it gets worse. Even going over speed bumps can do it too! Shesh!

I'll not forget after a few dates w/hubs he learned the truth. HAHA I was sooo embarrassed to tell him...I mean how many ppl have this? We had gone 2 stepping again and I forgot to take a Dramamine. He was spinning me around the floor and finally I stopped and tried to rest. I'm sure my personality changed b/c I was doing everything I could not to puke in front of (future hubs) him. I asked him if we could leave early and if he could take me home. I guess it would have been easier to explain why. I guess he thought something was wrong and wanted to talk about things before I got out of the car (I didn't talk the whole way home...which if you know me that's odd haha) I confessed the problem...and he giggled....I think he was more relieved! Next time to just tell him instead of getting all un-Laura like on him!....So he's been saddled w/a Migraine suffering Vertigo Puking Gal!!!

Anyways.....I'm feeling 50% better and don't need a full blown "on the floor w/Lily sitting on me crying b/c mommy can't move off the floor from fetal position waiting for daddy to come home to rescue" (yes true story)

Joys of Raising A Lily

Napoleon: Well, what is there to eat?
Grandma: Knock it off, Napoleon! Make yourself a dang quesadilla!

Napoleon: Fine!
Although if you remember correctly Grandma doesn't say Quesadilla right! haha I always get a kick out of that movie!

Last night I made another Sandra Lee recipe. Her's are always hit or miss....but I had to give this one a go! My oldest hates quesadillas! (not sure why he LOVES food no matter what it is) When it saw it on the menu board he groaned.....then he saw that it wasn't your normal Quesadilla!

This was definitely a must in our house again! Took seconds to make (esp if you buy the rotisserie chicken from walmart and shred it for your meals at the beginning of the week)

I'm sure I overstuffed mine (not pictured) because I never follow when it comes to cheese and chicken...I always add extra!

My sweet friends are throwing baby Reid a baby shower on Sunday! I was thinking that I am so thankful he isn't here yet....I'm totally not ready! (grins) I still have yet to sew those curtains and Lily's bedtime issues still haven't been resolved! Add to that the fact that she feels the need to throw tantrums the minute we step out of the car...I'm screwed! haha

A few days ago we headed to Target....Getting out of the car was an issue...she wanted to take a million little bath toys w/her. I could either win this battle and she's gonna scream her head off or I let her win. Well I won...and she screamed her head off.

So I distracted her by looking at the birds playing in the "waddy" (water) Well that had the opposite effect. Usually she giggles and laughs and pretends to be the birds. This time she started screaming

I'm talking full on fight and tears. I was humiliated walking her in. (thankfully I got a buggy from the returned ones so not to carry a kicking child in) Umm hello? It was birds playing in the water. I figured this trip was going to suck, but I had no choice...I had to pick up some gifts!

Thank you Target for the dollar section right there in the front of the store. There I spied a package of Smartie's ....I ripped it opened and gave her some! Whew....yes I gave in and gave her candy, but guess what? I got to shop for 1 hr so bite me!

The way home was brutal...she tried to escape 4 times on the way home...I had to pull over and fix her....she looked super uncomfortable! I should have snapped a few photos to share....but I was trying to keep my cool and not snap!

Baby Reid if you are listening.....this is how not to act.....I'll tell you stories of the older 3 siblings....act like that please! Help mommy out! :o) And Lily bless your dear soul for being you, but whenever anyone tells you you are acting just like your mommy...know they are lying!

Parenting 101: The But Why's...and 11 more weeks!

Helloooooooooooo Wednesday! I'm 29 weeks today! 11 more to go....ummmm wow slow down now...I'm totally not ready....I've got a ton still left to do! haha

Mini Me asked if I was going to hold off and try to give birth on my due date. Yes dear I'm going to try....(you see her bday is January 26th) I'm gonna do my best! I'd really like a February ♥ baby!

On to a little story I thought was great when trying to answer the "But Why" questions to your kids....

How many times have you heard....But why can't I? "Everyone else is doing it?" or the "Why can't I watch that movie/tv show?" etc etc.....

Mine mainly is the "why can't I see that inappropriate movie?" ugh....just because it says PG-13 doesn't mean it's appropriate for even 18 yr olds.

Our Pastor shared a story I thought was Dead On when trying to explain this subject to our kids...The one of Purity and 1 little thing can spoil the whole lot!

(I'm sure you have heard this story before)

Two teenagers asked their father if they could go to the theater to watch a movie that all their friends had seen. After reading some reviews about the movie on the internet, he denied their request.

"Aw dad, why not?" they complained. "It's rated PG-13, and we're both older than thirteen!"

Dad replied: "Because that movie contains nudity and portrays immorality, which is something that God hates, as being normal and acceptable behavior."

"But dad, those are just very small parts of the movie! That's what our friends who've seen it have told us. The movie is two hours long and those scenes are just a few minutes of the total film! It's based on a true story, and good triumphs over evil, and there are other redeeming themes like courage and self-sacrifice. Even the Christian movie review websites say that!"

"My answer is 'no,' and that is my final answer. You are welcome to stay home tonight, invite some of your friends over, and watch one of the good videos we have in our home collection. But you will not go and watch that film. End of discussion."

The two teenagers walked dejectedly into the family room and slumped down on the couch. As they sulked, they were surprised to hear the sounds of their father preparing something in the kitchen. They soon recognized the wonderful aroma of brownies baking in the oven, and one of the teenagers said to the other, "Dad must be feeling guilty, and now he's going to try to make it up to us with some fresh brownies. Maybe we can soften him with lots of praise when he brings them out to us and persuade him to let us go to that movie after all."

The teens were not disappointed. Soon their father appeared with a plate of warm brownies which he offered to his kids. They each took one. Then their father said,

"Before you eat, I want to tell you something: I love you both so much."

The teenagers smiled at each other with knowing glances. Dad was softening.

"That is why I've made these brownies with the very best ingredients. I've made them from scratch. Most of the ingredients are even organic. The best organic flour. The best free-range eggs. The best organic sugar. Premium vanilla and chocolate."

The brownies looked mouth-watering, and the teens began to become a little impatient with their dad's long speech.

"But I want to be perfectly honest with you. There is one ingredient I added that is not usually found in brownies. I got that ingredient from our own back yard. But you needn't worry, because I only added the tiniest bit of that ingredient to your brownies. The amount of the portion is practically insignificant. So go ahead, take a bite and let me know what you think."

"Dad, would you mind telling us what that mystery ingredient is before we eat?"

"Why? The portion I added was so small. Just a teaspoonful. You won't even taste it."

"Come on, dad, just tell us what that ingredient is."

"Don't worry! It is organic, just like the other ingredients."

"Well, OK, if you insist. That secret ingredient is organic...dog poop."

Both teens instantly dropped their brownies back on the plate and began inspecting their fingers with horror.

"DAD! Why did you do that? You've tortured us by making us smell those brownies cooking for the last half hour, and now you tell us that you added dog poop! We can't eat these brownies!""Why not? The amount of dog poop is very small compared to the rest of the ingredients. It won't hurt you. It's been cooked right along with the other ingredients. You won't even taste it. It has the same consistency as the brownies. Go ahead and eat!""No, Dad...NEVER!"

"And that is the same reason I won't allow you to go watch that movie. You won't tolerate a little dog poop in your brownies, so why should you tolerate a little immorality in your movies? We pray that God will not lead us unto temptation, so how can we in good conscience entertain ourselves with something that will imprint a sinful image in our minds that will lead us into temptation long after we first see it?

What a good lesson about purity! Why do we tolerate any sin?

I love this story! It helps the kids have a bit of an idea what it is we are trying to say! Then again if you have boys like mine they will respond w/"Well I'll just close my eyes at the part I'm not supposed to see"

Maybe next time I'll actually bake the brownies and use them w/my story!

Home Tour Tuesday: Kitchen and Recipe Share

Shannon and Daphne have started a new link up called Home Tour Tuesday.....When I saw recipe share added to the title I got all tingly! :o) You know me and my love of cooking!

First things first for me....a little recipe share.....

Winter Wassail

This will fill the house with holiday aromas.

Yield: Makes 13 cups

  • 2 teaspoons whole allspice
  • 2 teaspoons whole cloves
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 1/2 cups lemon juice
  • 1 cup water

Tie first 3 ingredients together in a piece of cheesecloth or coffee filter.

Bring cider and sugar to a boil in a large saucepan. Add spice bag; reduce heat, and simmer, covered, 10 minutes. Remove spice bag; discard.

Stir in orange juice and remaining ingredients; simmer 5 minutes or until heated. Serve hot.

I have made this about 4 times and have yet to be disappointed! Nothing beats smelling something incredible brewing through out the house! I love this time of year!

Our downtown Main street has a Wassail contest when they do the lighting of the tree in the square. All the little businesses in the square have a Wassail Stop on their door to let you know they have some to sample...you visit each business (shop too) and then vote on your favorite. I always forget to vote b/c I'm having too much fun trying different Wassail.

I'm sooo looking forward to it week after next....Santa is there....all the decorations....hot chocolate...wassail and the kids have a blast. (ok I do too) I'm a sucker for town gatherings!

On to the kitchen...

Not much to look at, but the island is my favorite. With the table seating 8...the island 4...I have room for more babies! haha
I just wish I had 3 ovens, 3 dishwashers, and a walk in pantry! I have no clue why they gave us a tiny stand up one...I have stuff stored in the utility room and garage. I'm this close every week to knocking out a wall and putting a wall of shelves in!

Cupcake How To's and Blooper Christmas Photos...

The April Fool Birthday Cupcakes for my son turned out awesome! His friends were giggling and asking how I did it. They wanted to know how I got the candy to look just like veggies! Here are a few pictures of how mine turned out....

Here are some of the veggies waiting to be put on the cupcakes

For the pork slivers....either pink tootsie rolls or pink starbursts...microwave for about 4 secs and then roll and cut

Same directions w/the yellow starbursts for the scrambled eggs

Carrots were orange starbursts cut in cubes

Scallions....green twizzlers cut ......

For the broccoli florets....take a green tootsie roll or green chewy jolly rancher and make a slit halfway down the top. Pull apart to make branches. Take your white icing and tint green. Pipe some on each branch tip and then roll in green sprinkles! Viola....broccoli

For the Fried Rice....Tint the white icing w/cocoa powder and then microwave for a few secs until it pours....mix into your rice crispy cereal. Ice the top of the cupcake w/some of the leftover beige brown frosting. Then take 1/4 cup of the frosting rice crisp cereal and put on top of each cupcake piled high to look like fried rice. Decorate w/some veggies!

I can't wait to try more of the April Fool cupcakes....

Miss Starbucks, but don't miss the dent in your wallet....

Well if you have some whipping cream and caramel topping for ice cream then you've got yourself a

Caramel Macchiato! HMMMMM yes I had this w/my banana nut muffin this morning!

This weekend I had the kids in the yard trying to take pictures for our Christmas cards...I have never laughed so hard in all my life. The oldest child was afraid I would go into labor from all the crying and laughing! Lily was a hoot...she actually dressed in the tutu I made for the girls and actually held the sign I made for each to hold! Although sometimes she would hold it for only her to see! I had such a fun time....here are some of the bloopers! (look at the expression on the oldest face #4 and 5...he said he's too old for this....ummm too bad!)

Shannon over at Persnickety Pages and More (the girl who rocked my blog design) is also doing Christmas cards! She rocked my card once again! Head over quick if you want a different card other than something you see on Shutterfly! I'll post my photo after it comes in!!!

Birthday Treasure plus The Treat

November 12th 7:42pm 6lbs 11oz

Pregnant w/Lily

Today my baby turns 12. I have to admit it does NOT seem like yesterday that he was born. Seems a lifetime ago....I can still picture his little face though...and his crazy smiles by age 1...and his hilarious humor by age 2....Jake was a sweet easy going baby that never gave me trouble....UNTIL the day I took him out of his crib (I thought it was time) and my great sleeper turned into a horrible sleeper. If I could go back I'd have kept him in his crib forever! haha

Thankfully both of my boys (listen up Reid) have been dreams....I hope newbie in womb keeps up the trend!

JW has one of the kindest souls around. He is always my helper around the house and loves making his littlest sister giggle!
The other day his school had a book fair and he took his own money. I assumed he was buying himself something, but instead he came home w/2 cookbooks for me. I was in total aweeeeee and told him that was sooooo sweet, but that he should have spent that money on himself. He told me he was only 11 and it was only money. Money was meant for spending on others. he knows how much I love cooking and thought I'd love these! Ok is he not the greatest kid ever?

Happy 12th Birthday My sweet boy! May you grow into the terrific young man I know you will be!

Yes I'm the mother who decorates for the kids....and thanks to a fellow blogger Lindsay at Southern Cinderella her mom still does too and Linday still loves it!!!

I kept the pirate theme going (from last year) and had some arrows and dash marks leading him from his bed downstairs to his "BOOTY" haha

Here are some of the images he saw when he woke....(I think he was more excited about getting a gift haha)

For his treat? One of the cookbooks he bought me was a Cupcake Cookbook. It had some really great looking decorated cupcakes...I've decided to go the "April Fools" route and make some that look like this....Wish Me Luck! The book has instructions and I've driven all over town looking for the little candies to decorate with! I'll post pictures of how mine look later (or maybe not...haha)
