My kids love wearing 3-D glasses...but they never stay on
So of course a light bulb went off in my "over exhausted why am I still pregnant" brain....
Now the kids can wear them and not come running to me all the time to help put them back on.
And no...we aren't watching anything in 3D...If you have kids you totally understand! (grins)
And yes...I'm still pregnant...and No I'm not feeling any signs of C wanting to come out...nuff said...and Yes I'm ready!
I can't sleep and it has nothing to do discomfort.
I'm in that OMG OMG OMG IT COULD BE ANY DAY stage
Every twinge, cramp, movement, backache I stop and think....could today be the day?
I am beyond antsy!
I can't wait to kiss and hold and smush my baby boy.
I can't wait to be a mother for a 6th time again.....
I was hit with a bit of sadness yesterday thinking that this is the last time I will be doing this....this is the last baby I will feel inside me moving and growing....this is the last baby I will be anxious for...this is the last baby I will see come into this world...this is the last set of firsts for a newborn in our house.
Bitter sweet sadness.....
But a happy time too...because our family is complete!
I want to remember everything of this labor....I want to remember every moment of his birth....(easier said than done when you are in pain...all you can think of is....'hurry up')
His crib is ready...his clothes are washed....his carrier is cleaned....my bag isn't packed but that's easy...I'm not bringing much....diapers are stacked...wipes are waiting....camera is charged.....
Now all I do is wait! I'm thinking next Wednesday the 1st. Does that sound good?
We also thought it was time to cut Dude Friends hair...it was getting a bit long and it was starting to curl in the back.....
Out came the clippers....We thought a 3 blade would be good....sadly now I wish we used a 8 haha....But here is my sweet sweet toddler....(hair grows fast)
He was so happy before and after....then again....He's always happy. I hope he keeps that up after his brother comes. For Dude Friend is connected to my hip all day...and nobody...I mean nobody can come near me. (deep sigh) We worried about Lily in the same way and she did FANTASTIC...only difference? She was 2 yrs 3 months when he was born....Reid will be only 18 months...
Time will tell!
Have a good weekend!!! And be looking for updates!!!
I pulled out a recipe the other day and made a copy of it.....
Since the kids were begging for me to 'start' cooking again I thought I'd give a new recipe a try.
Glad I did...It was quick and super easy and pretty tasty.
Thanks Gooseberry Patch for this yummy dish (and used their photo)
1/2 pound ground mild pork sausage
1/2 pound ground beef
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
2/3 cup canned diced tomatoes and green chiles
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 (10 3/4-oz.) can cream of celery soup
1 (10 3/4-oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (10-oz.) can enchilada sauce
18 (6-inch) corn tortillas
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 tomato, seeded and diced
4 green onions, chopped
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Optional: 1 avocado, chopped
Cook sausage and ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high
heat, stirring until meat crumbles and is no longer pink. Drain. Stir
in jalapeño and next 5 ingredients; cook until thoroughly heated.
Spoon one-third of sauce onto bottom of a lightly greased 13"x9"
baking dish; top with 6 tortillas; sprinkle with half of Cheddar cheese.
Top with 6 tortillas; repeat layers, ending with tortillas. Sprinkle
with Monterey Jack cheese and next 3 ingredients.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Top with avocado, if desired.
Overall I think it was great...I did make a few changes and WILL do a few things differently next time...
I added Chili Powder...and I WILL double the meat mixture next time and add some chopped onions when browning the meat. I'd also like to maybe make 2...one for me and hubs and add more jalapeno (with seeds). We also added some chopped black olives to ours. I'd like to add that to the cheese mixture...and of course...MORE CHEESE!
I took oldest and youngest to Walmart with me last night for our weekly groceries. (both boys) The checker looked at my belly and asked what # this was and when was I due. I proceeded to tell her....any day and #6.
You think I wouldn't be surprised by people's reactions....but this girl's takes the cake. Her response?
"So I guess this one was an accident?"
Ummmmmmmm what does one even say to that?
So instead I respond with ...."Nope...we like having a big family"
What is wrong with people these days?
But...yes 38 weeks today and feeling fine. Nothing more...nothing less....
two. Banana Nut Pancakes
In case you missed my blog from Saturday...(I rarely blog on weekends) then you missed the most incredible Pancakes EV-AH! Go make them now...you'll be so glad you did!
three. Menu Monday
I've been uninspired lately. The kids have been begging for their old mom (I'm quite young though) to come back.
So I planned 4 meals ...I figure I'll think about Friday on Friday
Monday: Bacon Ranch Chicken Sandwiches and Crock Pot Baked Beans
Tuesday: Mexican Lasagna
Wednesday: Chicken Fried Steak w/Cream Gravy, Garlic Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes, and Lemon Cake (In Law Dinner mind you)
Thursday: Laura's Favorite Pasta Sauce
I'm back folks
four. Dr Reid
Little Dude got sick on Friday. Ran a 101 fever and seemed totally not himself. I thought maybe his ears were bugging him and gave him garlic oil drops for 2 days. Saturday low grade fever....Sunday fever free. Whew....I hate when our babies are hot and sick. Not only that I was starting to panic a bit thinking NOOOOOOO NOT WHEN A BABY IS DUE. Maybe he was cutting teeth (although I thought they were all in) Or maybe it was his ears and the garlic oil for 2 days 3 times a day worked! Whatever the reason....I'm glad my baby boy is better. We don't have sick kids often...
five. Gifts Gifted
I showed up for playgroup last week and the girls had some decorations and gifts in honor of baby C.
At first I was like ...."hey a baby shower....I didn't bring a gift"
Then I was flabbergasted that they did this.....My heart swelled....It's nice to have friends
Here is Miss Thang ready for the playgroup....she thought we were going to a birthday party.....she was close...baby party!
Day 2 of pony tails!
Not really sure I'm nesting....hard to tell. I'm always cleaning and I'm always standing and I'm always running around like a chicken with her head cut off. I really need to slow a bit.....but if I do the house will really fall apart.
I did finally wash all new baby sheets....and wash the cushion on the infant carrier...and I FINALLY tackled the kids closet labeling all boxes from 0-3t for C and Reid! I feel I've accomplished tons.
1½ cups all-purpose flour
3½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon white sugar
2 ripe bananas
1¼ cups milk
4 tablespoons butter, melted
½ cup chopped pecans
Vegetable oil, for pan-frying
Maple syrup, for serving
Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a large mixing bowl then set it aside.
In a separate bowl, mash together the bananas with the milk, egg and melted butter.
Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in the wet, stirring to
combine, then stir in the nuts. Allow the batter to rest at room
temperature for 30 minutes.
Heat a large sauté pan over medium-low heat and add just enough oil
to coat the bottom of the pan, allowing it to heat for 2 to 3 minutes. (I used canola spray)
In batches, scoop 3 to 4 tablespoons of batter into the pan to form
pancakes. Cook the pancakes on one side until bubbles appear in the
center, then flip them once and continue cooking them until they're no
longer doughy in the center. Serve the pancakes with your choice of
toppings, including maple syrup, fresh fruit or whipped cream.
I always like to use Toasted Nuts when a recipe calls for nuts. You can totally taste a difference in toasted nuts vs untoasted....
If you are like me today you were distracted and burned the first couple of batches.
Moral...."Always watch your nuts so they don't burn"
I doubled her recipe and started to 2nd guess myself....It made a ton of batter....but honestly ...after baking them I'm glad I did......
The kids LOVED them!
Last words I uttered after licking my plate?
"Dern those were good"
In case you want to try Grandma Miller's Banana Bread Recipe....Here ya go....what's great about her recipe? Mix it all by hand!!!
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup oil
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3 ripe mashed bananas
2 eggs; beaten
3 tbs milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup toasted pecans or walnuts
Mix flour, soda, powder, salt in bowl with whisk; set aside
Stir sugar and oil until blended
Stir in bananas (to save on bowls I beat the eggs in this smashed banana bowl...then add)
Stir in eggs
Slowly incorporate flour mixture until blended. Stir in milk and vanilla.
Last throw in nuts and give it a stir
Now I have been making muffins....My oven is set to 350.....makes a dozen muffins....20 mins later they are perfect...I like mine slightly pale on top...makes for a super moist muffin
If you are doing a loaf pan....check after 45 mins. (I forget time since I'm a muffin girl)
Ok insomnia has set in....I now have to read to fall asleep and sometimes I wake up at 2am for a few hours (try 3) before falling back asleep.
I tell myself to snap out of it...pretty soon I'll be dreaming of alone sleep time....
My brain just ignores me
My body is NOW starting to feel the effects of this pregnancy.
I waddle like a duck....I'm swelling (hello Texas heat) and my back now pinches. I can't sit for longer than 20 mins....I can't stand that long either (well in one place) I can feel all my pelvic joints popping.
Not to mention the Acid Reflux that makes me feel like I want to shoot fire from my mouth.
And daily headaches! Bah....
I'm sorry to complain....booo
Baby C is really moving up a storm....I thought he was gonna fall out yesterday while walking in Wally World. I didn't want to make the evening news so I got what I needed and waddled home.
ON a BRIGHT NOTE....
Sweet Brandy sent me a 'coming home outfit' and 'big bro and big sis' stuff too.....Now while I can't show you baby C's set...(keeping his name hidden until he makes his arrival)
I can show you the other sweet things....
Brandy I can't thank you again!
As for my baby bump....?
Reid and I took a snap shot in the mirror.....I thought it looked bigger than normal...Hubs said that's b/c it is. (thanks love)
This pic is actually deceiving ...I thought the camera made you gain 10 lbs.....My face looks thinner than it is....and so does the rest of me...but Here you go baby C
(I look psycho early morning crazy...just go with it)
Reid is usually found in this position hourly...Hopefully he shares his Maama with new brother!
I am sooo not feeling this is the week to see little man. (I say that and go into labor tonight)
If you have followed me at all these last pregnancies you know I go until 40 weeks. But a girl can dream right?
Feeling fine...just really tired during the day....Sleeping on and off during the night...the potty breaks take precedent over sleep. Got acid reflux....minimal swelling and my back is actually doing great.
Baby C was moving a bit slow on Friday so I headed to the midwife to hook up to the monitor...He moved the whole time.....It's like when you take your car to the mechanic for a knock...and get there and it doesn't knock....and you SWEAR you heard the knock! Anywho it was nice to watch his heartbeat for 20 mins....I would talk to him and watch his heart rate increase....awww He loves me already!
Stay tuned to the blog post that says "IT'S TIME" and you'll know to keep checking for updates!
two. the cook WAS out
I haven't cooked in the past 2 weeks....The kids were confused...I wasn't. I wanted a break. I was sick of organizing meals....standing all day in the kitchen.....food being eaten before I sit down....and by the time I do sit down to eat the kids have finished their 2nd helping and are gone from the table. So I went on strike. I bought pre-made stuff...or you had to fend for yourself...ie sandwiches soups microwaveable stuff etc.
I SOOO ENJOYED my time off. I actually loved waking up and NOT thinking what I was going to cook for a week. No mad rush to the store.....no hauling unwilling children with me to push buggies....no whining children who were FORCED to help unload the car. (shesh)
You better believe they went willingly to the store today and didn't open their lips when unloading the car once home. I think they missed me (or my cooking)
THE COOK IS BACK....now....
three. Upstairs Doom
My hallway upstairs is horrid. I pulled all clothes from kids closets and I have piles ready to be either to be stored to younger kids...or given away to Goodwill. When I walk up there I want to cry. I think the piles get larger each morning. I can't sit up there with the little ones to organize b/c they run rampant in the halls and in the big kids rooms. I'm afraid Reid is gonna trip and fly down the stairs...which has my heart racing. So I've been putting it off. I can sooooo enjoy procrastination for maybe 1 day longer!
Our DVR pooped out on Friday.....like gone...keeps 'restarting' itself. We called and they tried troubleshooting and said we need a new one....and it comes this week. So we've been w/o TV...ok sort of.....we have Netflix on the Wii and have been watching many episodes of Phineas and Ferb....and Lily has discovered My Little Pony (I want to bang my head into a wall)
I realized how much we love the telly (bad).......I have a billion shows taped to watch 'one day' on the dvr....I'm about to lose them ALL....
Not only that...we have pretty much all Little Bears on Nick Jr taped....we watch those at night to wind down in the evenings....(is he soothing or what?) I'm missing my HGTV too.....Hub is thrilled...he's been asking me to watch and delete my shows. I wonder when he thinks I have time to sit for hours and hours to watch my shows. Hence why they sit there in the DVR calling my name.
We are in a horrible stage over here with Dude Friend....HITTING. I've never had to deal with this...yes out of 5.5 of the kids...Dude is the first.
He will literally wind his arm up and smack. Most of the time it's not just his hand...He will grab an object and hit you over the head or smack in the face with it. And when he has a hard object...it's not a good thing. And this is just when he's happy....boys got a temper and when the temper is high his arms are a flying. I need a recording of dada saying "Reid...no sir...put that down"
When hubs says this Reid breaks out in tears...when I do it Reid gets more fired up and bangs more.
How do father's do that? And us mother's just get laughed at.
Little man is pushing new buttons I didn't know I had.
six. Princess Time
Well it's taken close to 4 years, but she (who?) Lily has let me put ponies in her hair. She looks so grown up now....
She had her first movie this weekend......All the kids wanted to go and off we headed to the Disney Store for our Merida Doll...and then off to see Brave. Lily loved the whole idea of getting popcorn and a coke! She had to sit in all of our seats with us...and did talk loudly a few times....for instance when the mother called the princess "Merida" ...Lily yelled out...."THAT'S NOT HER NAME IT'S BRAVE"
After this for some reason she is all about letting me put things in her hair. I nearly cried, but held off in case it freaked her out and she changed her mind.
Her hair is such a curly short choppy mess it was a bit hard to make look perfect, but.........We are also into tutu dresses.....Thanks to Old Navy having a sale...I got this one for $7...and bought it a size bigger to have an extra year out of it. (that is if she doesn't wear it out before then)
Before I get to how I suck as a craft woman.......
You need to make this.....
I ran across these German Chocolate Brownies on Pinterest (where else?) the other day and knew my FIL would love them for a Wednesday Night dinner treat. (ok who am I kidding...my pregnant belly would too)
I mean the Coconut Pecan icing in the can isn't bad (gags) but anything homemade in my book is better.....(well let me back up....I didn't make the brownies homemade....I am in ♥ with Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie mix lately....that sucker is moist and just rich to the bones....)
So I got my sheet pan out and doubled the brownies and baked those....
Let them cool and then make the Coconut Pecan frosting as follows....(no need to double...there was plenty for my sheet pan and more)
COCONUT PECAN FROSTING
3 egg yolks
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
2 1/2 to 3 cups sweetened flaked coconut
1 1/2 cups chopped pecans(I roasted mine first for 8 mins in a 350 oven)
In a medium saucepan, stir together the egg yolks, sugar, butter,
vanilla, and evaporated milk until well blended. Cook this mixture over
medium heat for about 15 minutes, stirring constantly, until thick and
bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in the flaked coconut and chopped
pecans, blending well. Let mixture cool for about 30 minutes, then give
it a final stirring and spread evenly over the completely cooled
Next time I will let mixture boil a bit longer for the color to darken a bit more....didn't affect the taste at all...just thought the color should be a bit darker than I made mine
I may or may not be dreaming for a moment alone when the kids aren't watching to steal another piece
Now on to why I am not a crafter....I stink at painting furniture. I really do...I can do walls....tiny projects.....I realized as of late I love staining stuff too...but painting pieces of furniture...NOPE ...don't ever ask me...
First I bought 2 cans of spray paint....Black Krylon Paint and Primer spray paint....How hard can this be right? Well remember how the 1st can was spraying SPLATTER and when I took my finger off it kept spraying...thankful I was in a field b/c I threw the can....2nd can didn't splatter (as much) but was pouring paint down my gloves and can....looked like it sprung a leak.
So off hubs to the rescue...He buys a cheap can b/c after all...it will prob work. He heads to Lowe's and buys a no name plain black can...
WELL IT RUINED MY CHAIR.
OH it worked great...(harder to push trigger) but...
It made my chair go from pretty black (with splatter) to black dust. It seriously looked like it had been burned and all that was left was char. I wanted to cry at this point
Off to sand the thing a 4th time....
I bought myself an orbital sander. Awesome huh?!
(not if you're me)
Next to it were the orbital round sanding pads so I buy them all
I get home ....and start to sand the charred chair....I finished the pad they gave me in the box and opened a package I bought...
ONLY THE PACKAGES I BOUGHT WERE ADHESIVE
and my sander is
Now I feel like throwing something and yelling like a maniac.
This project has taken way longer than it should
So off I go
to buy PAINT this time..(can't find the velcro sanding pads)
I figure I'll paint the chair where the spray paint sucked at......
This is when I learn I have no skills....I'd have been better off letting Lily have a go at the brush.
Needless to say this was a shabby chic project....a table and chairs that small children will be eating on....SO IT DIDN'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT
Here are the table and chairs are w/o a 2nd coat.....I might toss in the rubber gloves and call it a day
I think I'll stick to being barefoot and preggers in the kitchen!
I'm getting so stinkin excited to meet him. I want to cuddle him...smush him....smell him....kiss him....squeeze him...
I want to have his little head lay on my chest and feel him breathing....
I want him to feel my warmth and hear my voice telling him how much in love I am with him....
I want to hold and kiss all his little fingers and toes...
I want to feel his sweet soft skin on mine...
I'm also nervous! I mean how do I have 6 kids? (grins) Hubs keeping reminding me it's not our first rodeo....all will be well.
No one was around for a photo....so here you go with a bathroom shot. (lovely eh?)
36 weeks....and baby C is doing grand. Had midwife appt....total weight gain is at a whopping 34 lbs.....awww the good chubby life. I got my work cut out for me at the end of this.
I have been reading the book "birthing from within" a bit odd...but it never hurts to learn new stuff....even if it's ur 6th rodeo as hubs says.
I NEVER have a clue about the day I give birth until the day it happens....I just hope its sooner than later....
The little kids have kept me on my toes....which hasn't given me much down time to rest....but then again as if I really could if I had the time huh?! The weather has been crazy in texas...weird to not be in 100 + temps days straight...in fact we have rain all this week (I pray) and temps high of 91....crazy I tell ya
They like to sit outside early morning before heat sets in and play "Restaurant" ...me being the Chef (what's new?)
And granted it's taking me days and days...I finally got a few things sanded and stained and painted....all these projects I've got sitting around....
First up? That Pottery Barn ruler....You know the one you see on Pinterest?
Well I had the stain...was lacking a 6' board. Hubs let me finally get one this weekend......and I got her stained yesterday....now I just need to draw the ruler on her...
I was sweating like a pig out there though...the humidity is insane right now.....so I thought I would spray the small table and chairs after the little Dude Friend went to bed at night.
2 cans of spray paint later....they were both defective. Come on Krylon....what gives....so now I will have to hand paint it....I really wanted quick ...
We have an empty lot across the street with some pipe sticking up from the ground...I used the lot and pipe as my table for spraying the chairs....I'm sure the ppl driving by seeing the fat pregnant chick w/an orange apron....gloves and glasses...armed with a can of spray paint was a sight!
Here's all I got done so far.....stupid can didn't even get whole chair done...and not to mention the wind....
Today's goal? Finish chair...and find infant carrier and start washing some of his stuff.....I never go until 40 weeks...but maybe if I prepare he will make an arrival next week....
Wanna place bets on when he comes and how much he weighs?
My 20 yr High School Reunion was this weekend...I was afraid to travel back home with me being a bit closer to my due date (can you say 5 weeks or less???? hello????!!!)
So sadly I missed it....sort of
I was joking around and asked a friend to print a photo of me and get my photos with friends....guess what? He did!
He went to Office Depot and had them print my head out. He tried life size, but it couldn't be done. (is my head that big?)
Then he put me on a stick ...and off I went to the reunion....
All night long ppl were uploading photos of me and where I went. Looks like I even made it to eat some Mexican food around 1am....
I became like Flat Stanley...I ended up in a plant and lampshade too...
First I started out as a news anchor
Then I started getting stopped in the parking lot of the hotel...
After that I just mingled!
Then I went out for dinner around 1am
It looks like I had a really good time at the reunion...it was great catching up with ppl.....
Seriously though...I wonder if my stick head had more fun than I would have if I went?
They plan on having a 25 reunion and that one I plan on making esp since baby #6 is it for us...
Speaking of baby C....I'm 35 weeks today....whew! I usually go until week 40, but maybe this once I will be surprised and go early?! I think maybe the Texas Heat is starting to go to my head!
Brandy over at the Etsy store Sunfire Creative (jack's mom...she used to blog...) is helping me come up with a cute "Coming Home" outfit ...so stay tuned!!! Her shop is 'closed' right now...but check her feedback out....her stuff is way cute....(she's the one who made all the cute cowboy stuff for reid and his tag lovely blankets back when he was born)
