O Christmas Tree Project Pinterest Worthy

For once I DIDN'T see this on Pinterest.

Last year my mother in law saw these for sale.  She went back to buy some this year and they were not selling them.

So what does any good little project seeker do?

Make them of course

tree1

So we've made 6 of them.

Hubs and I got out some paper and pencils and rough sketched some trees of varies heights

tree2

Then off to cutting we went (ok he cut, he said I would cut my fingers off...probably)

tree3

Then off to painting I went...took me a few nights...I don't have many hrs during day to paint with the munckins

tree

tree6

Then hubs got to work screwing in the screws....first the bases were completed

tree5

Then the branches

tree4

Then I had some touch ups and attached some stars and hearts and gingerbread men!

Last thing I will do today will be to wind some colored lights around them!

Viola!

I adore how they turned out.

My MIL and Mother will be the recipients of these babies!  (of course I had hubs make 3 more for me)

Bring on the snow!!!

It's Like They Got Into My Mind or Something....

This morning I was prepping food for dinner tonight...
getting dessert sorted....
changing a diaper with 2 hands...stopping a child from throwing something with 1 foot...
trying to get my 2nd cup of coffee reheated....
doing dishes...
waving at the big kids heading out the door...
letting the dog outside for his morning doody (duty)...
moving the laundry to the dryer...starting the wash....
taking out the trash...
wiping up the spilt milk from the table...
refilling the sippy for the 2nd and 3rd time...
wiping lil potty trained booties...
and it's not even 8:30...

When all of the sudden my phone got a txt message from my girl Neely at A Complete Waste of Makeup

She said you need to watch this video and like now!

I am a complete procrastinator and dropped everything I was doing and stood there in the kitchen on my phone watching this completely hilarious video

I think these 2 parents stepped into all of our lives and made a song just for us!

SO STOP what you're doing and watch this...I promise you might sway your hips and rock your shoulders a bit too
(I considered it my work out for the day)

Parent of the Year Award to...

Well not me....

So yesterday I was in the garage painting during the 2 babies (ok Reid isn't a baby but...)

I've got this tree project I'm doing and let's face it...with all the kids and household duties I only have so often to tackle things....

I told Lily I would be in the garage and she could come visit with me...she would....and then go back in the house to play games...and then back to visit.  I would also pop my head in and listen for the babies to wake from their nap.

I popped my head in and heard Cole screaming (looked at clock and it's only been 45 mins of a 2 hr nap)

I see Lily sitting on the couch with a smile on her face

I head upstairs and find Cole on his back (he's a belly sleeper) screaming...I pick him up and come downstairs.

What does any mother do?

I asked Lily if she went into Cole's room...she said yes.
I asked her if she flipped him on his back ....she said yes.

I scolded her for going into his room without asking.  She knows better than to go upstairs when the boys or baby is sleeping.

I got a very irritated Cole calmed down....and asked her again why she wanted to go in his room and turn him over.

She said she didn't.

WHAT?

But you just said you did.

I didn't go in his room mommy.

Now I'm disappointed she lied to me.

So I made her sit out for lying.

I sat and pondered her answers....when she said she went into his room she was smiling...and when she told me she didn't she seemed so serious.  I was sooo confused.

I told hubs later that Lily lied to me and I was bothered by her trying to cover since she was in trouble.

He had a talking with her too.

Later that night I went to put Cole in for an evening nap.

Sure enough I hear him screaming again and I go in there and what do I find?

He's flipped on his back again.

ONLY THIS TIME THERE WAS NO LILY....

Lily wasn't even upstairs...no one was.

WHICH COULD ONLY MEAN?

Cole is now rolling and I blamed my 4 yr old for lying.

Deep sigh.

Needless to say I had a lot of Mommy is sooo sorry.  You were telling Mommy the truth.  Can I have a hug? etc...

It's bothered me all night and day

Moral...Sometimes your kids do tell the truth even when it doesn't seem like it.

and

COLE IS ROLLING

I have yet to see him roll....He only seems to do it when in his crib.

Last night I stood over his crib for 20 mins waiting for him to roll.

I'd leave the room and he would do it.

Crazy kid

Holding to Traditions...Advent Time

Advent Season is drawing near and for the past 7 years we have had our own little family Advent candle lighting with the kids.

Here is a photo of when Lily was just a few months old

When we first started this really none of the kids listened and our lesson time was quick...then treat.

Things have gotten great with the older kids....but enter in Lily, Reid and now Cole....we are back to chaos during lesson again.

We do our Advent time on Monday night....I felt this helped kick start our week....

Every year I plan a treat and drink for the night....and each treat is usually a NEW treat that I've never made for them before.

Last night I got out my books and came up with this

Dec 3
Gingerbread  and cider

Dec 10th
Hungarian Treats and Holiday Milk (thank you Target)

Dec 17th
Pull Apart Monkey Bread and Hot Chocolate

Dec 23rd
Family will be in town....so we will do a group one

We try to have an activity with the lesson and then snacks last.  I used to do snacks first, but they were too busy eating and talking about the treats and they didn't listen.

I had to let go of all of my expectations of the "perfect" family Advent.

In my mind the children sat around the table listening to hubs and I share the Word of the season.  They would all be gazing lovely at us and nod and participate when asked questions.  They would bow and pray and then cheerfully eat the snack and then we would light the candle in the dark.

What really happened?

The kids barely sit in their seat...I'm screaming SIT DOWN OR NO FOOD

Then when we started talking the kids would start talking and then I'm screaming HUSH UP AND LISTEN OR NO FOOD

Then when we would light the candle, there are fights over who gets to light it...who turns out the lights ....and who blows the candle out.  I'm screaming....HUSH SIT SETTLE QUIT FIGHTING AND NO ONE IS TOUCHING FIRE BUT ME.

Sorry here keeping it real....it's massive chaos.

But I keep doing it every year.

Why?  Because teaching our children the Gospel in the home is important to me.  That's where faith should start....with you and your husband.  Church and other Christian activities are equally important, but I want the center to be from within the home.

My children look forward to this tradition every year.

Each year when I bring the Wreath out they get excited talking about last year and (what else) the treats.

I've learned with a big family and lots of kids that shake and roll...you just have to make it short and sweet!!

I'm a tad bummed...I've lost my Advent Notebook I've been keeping with all my notes and stories in it...

Looks like I'm starting fresh this year.

I'm off to paint now...I've been making some 5, 4, and 3 foot wooden trees...I'm covered in green paint...Kelly Green color....I'm a hoot!  Stay tuned for pictures.  I should have the DIY for Wednesday!

Her Passed Down Dress

When I found out Lily was a girl ...I was in shock...I guess I assumed I'd only have little boys....Seriously to this day I giggle I have 2 girls.  Crazy I know considering the fact that Mini Me is 11 and Lily is 4...but....daughters?  Me?

You play babies as a child and I always had baby girls...they were fun to dress up...put bows in their hair...and making up all your little girl names  (which btw mine were always named Alexis)

When I had the 2 boys first...I assumed #3 would be a boy too....

Finding out I was having a girl put me in a dizzy!!

After having Kate I couldn't find big enough bows or more pink stuff...I might have overdone things at times.
At one point I was big into Hanky dresses..Kate had a ton of them....tank dress with hankies sewn on for a skirt....overalls with hankies...Tops with hankies....here is a picture of Lily in a pair of Kate's overalls....

4

I know ...I guess I'm the only one that loves the whole hanky thing...but who cares.....I adored them.

But there is that one dress

3

It used to be Kate's....and I saved it too.

I saved a boxful of her clothes from when she was little.  I had no idea if I would ever have anymore babies...let alone another little girl...but I saved them anyways.

Along comes Lily .....

Now she is in love with this pink hanky dress.
She calls it her Cookie Crumb dress (it looks like an apron for baking cookies she said)

She wears it almost every day.  At first I was annoyed...she has a closet full of clothes and yet chooses this dress no matter the weather.

Then it struck me...My baby girl is going to grow up and will not be able to fit in this one day just like her sister...and it will sit in the closet as a reminder my girls are growing.

With each day that goes by they get a little older...and a little more grown up looking...

I want to freeze Miss Lillian where she is...so for now I'll let her wear her Cookie Crumb dress as often as she likes....

She'll be growing up like her big sister...

2

Wasn't it just yesterday Kate was Lily's age...full of why's and pretending her baby dolls were real babies....wanting to help me in the kitchen baking cookies...helping me fold the laundry?
Saying "I'm gonna be a nice mommy just like you"

Now it's how does my hair look, how do my nails look, can I borrow your shirt? (ok she doesn't ask she just takes)..I'm not ready for them to grow up anymore....

As for the dress....

I just might keep it for my granddaughters

Free Fonts...Chalkboard Style

I am obsessed with my Photoshop.

I got it back when I was pregnant with #4 and although I don't know how to use it like Pro....(hello mom to 6 kids I rarely have time to shower) I can do basic things.

One thing I love is installing new fonts.....takes forever to scroll through the list of really cool ones....but...

Last night I scrolled and found some of these ...

2

Love how they look on a chalkboard background!  The possibilities are endless.  Especially when you can make the font transparent by whatever % you want for chalk look.

I found these at Dafont.com for some of these free fonts...or find some of your own.

Get In My Belly.....

I've got a recipe I can't believe I haven't shared...

Every time I go to make it I pull my recipe tab up on my blog and it's not there...

What is it?

Potato Soup

This one is by far my favorite...I've tried about 4 recipes and I keep coming back to this one...

Where from?  Oh Southern Living Homestyle Favorites Cookbook

  • 5 large baking potatoes (peeled and cubed..about 4 1/2 lbs)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 celery ribs chopped
  • 2 carrots chopped
  • 1 8oz package of cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1  10 3/4 oz can cream of chicken soup
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • Garnish: additional shredded Cheddar cheese, cooked and crumbled bacon, sliced green onions

Preparation

  1. Combine first 4 ingredients in a lg Dutch Oven and add water to cover.  Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer 12 mins, or until potatoes are tender, drain
  2. Beat cream cheese and butter in medium bowl at med speed until creamy.  Add cream of chicken soup, beat well.  Gradually add milk, beating until smooth;  add milk mixture to potato mixture.
  3.  Stir in 2 cups of water, salt, and pepper.  Bring to a boil and reduce heat and simmer uncovered 15 mins, stirring occasionally.  Mash soup until desired consistency.  (we leave a few big chunks in ours)
  4. Top with additional shredded Cheddar cheese, cooked and crumbled bacon, sliced green onions

This soup will thicken as it sits...so I add more milk at the end.

I even love this the next day for lunch...add a half of a sandwich and on a cold day this hits the spot

I'm a Ninja

The other day hubs was watching tv and yelled at me to come there...I was on tv.

Cool I thought....Hope they got my good side

It was a commercial for Tide.....Too bad I'm not that hot little red head...but her closet could have been mine.

I wear black all the time...Like all the time...Like pretty much everything I own is black.  In fact hubs is making me pick 3 days of non black clothes out to wear b/c he is going to RIT Dye my clothes black again b/c of fading.  He said he's gonna soak them for 3 days and then I can have them back.

3 days of non black clothes.  Are you kidding me?  I don't have 3 days of non black clothes...not that I can wear in public that is.

You see in my mind....that is the only color that looks best on me.  Red makes me feel weird.  Purple just isn't my thang.....Now Gray...yes....I can do any shade of gray...esp Charcoal.  Any accent color and I start to feel weird.

But I am excited to think he could possibly get all my blacks black again....It might feel like I have a whole new wardrobe!

I did pick up this little number the other day on Taylor's site on FB...(click the link)

Now I don't normally do horizontal stripes....but this looked adorable with leggings and a black cardi.  I can so be stylish and still wear black colors!

Don't forget she is having her auction for more adorable clothes tonight starting at 7pm.  Be there fast b/c her stuff gets snapped up quick!

And btw....I am really a Ninja!

Don't Tell But You're My Favorite

I tell all the kids they are my favorite.  I am hoping they will secretly tell the other sibs and then they will realize I have 6 favorites.

This morning they truly thought I picked a favorite.

You see I do birthday specials....but birthday breakfasts can be difficult.  You see if your birthday falls during the week then YES I can make a birthday treat for breakfast.

If your birthday falls on a weekend it's iffy.  I try to catch a few mins longer *as if* of sleep and laze around that morning not doing anything.  I mean it's my day off right?

*SIDE NOTE....if you are a mom and know how to have a day off please come talk to me and tell me your secret*

Also some of the kids slept in so late on their birthday it was lunch time by the time they got up...and it ruins the breakfast treat I made...so I quit.
Anywho....I've decided you only get a birthday dinner and dessert.....

Well today is child #2's 14 BIRTHDAY

I adore him...

He was his typical self this morning.  Said he shouldn't have to go to school ...he didn't last year.

I reminded him that his birthday fell on a weekend...Nice try!

Last night he asked if I would make pancakes for his birthday.....all the other kids shouted...

SHE DOESN'T DO BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST...

Enter this morning...

Reid got up around 5ish...He usually hollers my name at random times...but he will go back to sleep.  Well he kept hollering.  I just climbed back in bed from a night feeding with Cole...so sadly I was still wide awake...

I trudged out of bed and stuck my ear to Reid's door...I am so afraid that the tummy bug that has been hitting other homes is going to make it to my door.....I heard him wide awake calling me...

So in I go....boy felt warm...took his temp and it was a slight fever.....so off to the couch we went and snuggled on the couch in the dark watching Max and Ruby.

And then I had a brilliant idea to make pancakes.  I haven't made them since Pole was born....

I made some mini choc chip mini pancakes.

Oh Lordy......guess what I did?  I made a treat on someones birthday.

"He's your favorite huh?"

"What?"

"You NEVER make Birthday breakfast"

"Yep you got  me....child #2 is my favorite..."

WOW they got me huh!  haha

Point is....I'm up early...looking haggard....making pancakes wrestling demons out the door for school.

Back to sweets.....?  (we were talking sweets right?)

I ask each child what dessert they want for their birthday...thankfully no one ever says Cake...

I've had requests for ....Lemon Bars...Cookie Cakes, Banana Pudding, Pies, and today?  White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies.

I'm a tad excited....I've not made them before....(I know shocking)
________________________________________

Last night I made a photo collage of my 6 kids at 3 months of age.  They all look different, but yet some look the same too....

Remember this one...all of them at 6 weeks

5

Here they all are at 3 months

Lily cracked me up because she went through a tongue hanging out phase....we called it her

Rock Band Kiss phase!

Love my kids...and love seeing them growing up.

and for the record...the child that is my favorite is the one that keeps their room clean...so far the oldest is in the lead!  haha

Throw Up Thursday

I really shouldn't say the word Throw Up considering the fact that it's going around the neighborhood ....a handful of our friends families have the pukey right now...

But I'm pertaining to the Throw Up Thursday... as in I gotta bunch of junk to talk about....

First off sweet Pole

7

He turned 3 months yesterday....Can you believe it?  Didn't I just announce at this time last year I was pregnant?  Seems like yesterday he was inside kicking away.

My pregnancy with Cole was fast and perfect...and out came this perfect baby boy who continues to amaze me daily!

6

This kid is a riot and I look forward to each and every second with him....I talk to him just to see his eyes light up with joy!  That wide mouth grin is a daily occurrence with him....ain't it cute?!  He talks non stop ....probably telling us what a crazy bunch of monkeys we are!

On a different note....

Do you remember when the other day where I told you Taylor started a new business?  Well it got even better...

She started an online auction site on Facebook for clothes and accessories

403530_277415892361943_980771212_n

It's a totally great concept....

Auctions start on every Tues and Thurs at 7pm....it's a first come first serve basis.

She posts a picture of the item and sizes and  quantities available and boom...grab it while you can

She even will post outfits with the items paired together so you know how to style them.

Let's face it...I need all the help I can get!  I am horrible at looking at clothes and knowing how to pair them!

Right now if you go and like her Facebook page and get her to 1000 likes she is having a $100 gift card giveaway

She is like 6 away...so hurry...I want to win...I mean you need a chance to win stuff!

Recipes...

I haven't posted many lately....I've just been cooking some of my old usual...

But tonight I am doing a newbie I found where else?  Southern Living.  It can't go wrong.

Thought the kids would enjoy it....the name?

Pizza Spaghetti Casserole
2 of our favorite things in one huh!!

  • 12 ounces uncooked spaghetti
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (1-lb.) package mild ground pork sausage
  • 2 ounces turkey pepperoni slices (about 30), cut in half
  • 1 (26-oz.) jar tomato-and-basil pasta sauce
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 (8-oz.) package shredded Italian three-cheese blend

Preparation

  1. Cook spaghetti with 1/2 tsp. salt according to package directions. Drain well, and place in a lightly greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish.
  2. Brown sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until meat crumbles and is no longer pink. Drain and set aside. Wipe skillet clean. Add pepperoni, and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 4 minutes or until slightly crisp.
  3. Top spaghetti in baking dish with sausage; pour pasta sauce over sausage. Arrange half of pepperoni slices evenly over pasta sauce. Sprinkle evenly with cheeses. Arrange remaining half of pepperoni slices evenly over cheese. Cover with nonstick or lightly greased aluminum foil
  4. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes; remove foil, and bake 10 more minutes or until cheese is melted and just begins to brown.

*After I posted this I got a phone call that today isn't Thursday It's Friday....whatever...all my days blend into one!

Anniversaries and Naked People

Hubs and I celebrated another Anniversary yesterday.

IMG_4454

Celebrated in a way a family of 8 knows how....

Staying in and watching football.

No seriously, we didn't have a babysitter and the whole time change threw us all off....

My InLaws said they would sit on Wednesday night when they come over for dinner...Hubs and I might take them up on that offer...we'll have to take along Sweet Pole though...he can't be away from his food source for long.

I made that photo using one of my phone apps and got the number idea from where else?  Pinterest!  There's a great Flickr site that has a million letters/numbers to choose from.

I had planned on mounting the photo on a wood block and surprising him...but I went to Lowe's and bought the wrong board...then I had him cut the scrap wood I did find the wrong size.  He kept asking me what it was for...and I told him nothing....He said it better not be some Letter Block for my gift...I just looked around and said "Of course not...how lame a gift would that be"  (deep sigh)
I ended up just printing it and hanging it where he would see it.
Insert "L" lame on my forehead.  We don't usually do gifts...too close to Christmas....

So since yesterday was OUR day I decided to finish one of my other Pinterest projects....my Giant Ruler Pottery Barn Knock Off...

2

I haven't decided which wall to put it on...this one is a bare space in the long entry hallway....I don't think it will stay...but for now it's found a home...

I had Reid and Lily stand by it for photos....Reid aka new binky boy did it willingly (although he looks a bit like a deer caught in the headlights)

1

Lily on the other hand was mad I was making her stand up tall...she was shouting  "BUT I WANT TO BE SMALL"

It wasn't until after I downloaded my photos did I realize I had a naked child.....At some point he unsnapped himself and took the diaper off this  morning.

It gave "smile for the camera" a whole new meaning

Foto Friday...Instagram Fun

I have a new addiction!

Instagram

It's like twitter..but better b/c pictures are involved.  I'm a visual kind of girl...

And the fun thing is most of my bloggy friends are there....and then I meet new bloggy friends....and then it's like an extension of bloggy land....so get on Instagram! (and then let me know your name)

Do you have a baby that spits up?

Well I do?  And it usually happens with a loud splat behind my back (and then all over the back of my clothes)....
yesterday Reid was sitting at my feet...and he almost got nailed!

A few night ago, we were getting ready for bed...and SPLAT....I yelled to get some paper towels.  Kate screamed "NOOO get the camera...it's a heart shaped puke splat"

She wasn't kidding....I guess sweet boy loves me and had to show it

Halloween came and went...it always does...

Lily wanted to be Dorothy...so we bought the sparkle shoes and got a basket with a tiny puppy....
but
she changed her mind

Lily wanted to be a princess
but
she changed her mind

Lily wanted to be a Pirate (like on her bday)
but
she changed her mind

This continued for days and hours (on Halloween)

We ended up being Tinker Bell....we have watched Tink's new DVD "secret of the wings" a billion times now.....I'm over it!

IMG_4487

Sweet Cole was a Pumpkin and Reid was the only boy costume we had on hand...a Pirate from Lily's party...it was too small, but he didn't mind.  He kept going around "Roaring" at ppl.

I did go to Target yesterday and bought some boy costumes on sale. I am trying to fill up the play trunk with boy stuff.

I ended up getting 3 superhero vests with capes attached and matching masks.  I tried making him a super hero yesterday, but he's not ready yet.  He wouldn't run around the yard for me making his cape billow.  Hopefully he will in the next year.  I'm excited to have more super hero boys running around....my 16 yr old and soon to be 14 yr old boys don't do much of that anymore for me (hee hee)

I made some Halloween Cupcakes to eat before going to Trick or Treat.  What good mommy doesn't sugar her kids up before getting more sugar?

IMG_4472

I've said it before...these are the best cupcakes and icing ever....Look under my recipe tab for white cupcakes.

Lily had a blast going door to door...Reid was scared....we would walk him up to the door, but I think he was a little freaked out at the person coming at him....even with candy.  I guess he thought they were going to pick him up...so he stayed in his stroller!  Just wait until next year!!
_______________________________________________

Yesterday while making the kids Critter Lunch....I caught Lily and Reid looking at the Toys R Us catalog.  Lily was helping Dude Friend make his Christmas List....My heart giggled!

IMG_4491

For lunch I wanted to try that Pinterest inspired Octopus Hot Dogs... It worked...

IMG_4496

They turned out really cute.

Then I got worried that they would be grossed out and not eat the hot dog...I mean I sure wasn't going to put a tentacle in my mouth....but they ate them like it was nothing....

Now I need to find more ways to make cute food for my kids to eat.

I have to take the same food they won't eat and make it into something....like Peanut Butter Sandwiches...what kid doesn't like them?  Mine that's who...but put them in a Alien Spaceship shape...well that's a whole different sandwich huh?

IMG_4539

Thanks to Pampered Chef little tool...I can make any sandwich into a Spaceship and fly it to them...and they eat!

_______________________________________________

While at Target yesterday (having fun like a kid in a candy store) Mini Me snapped some cute pics of her and Reid ...sweetness...I love my kids

IMG_4540

Happy Friday Y'all....
You can find me and hubs sitting on the couch all weekend watching all the Christmas Hallmark Movies on the Hallmark Channel.  A new The Good Witch came on last night...we taped it and have a date to watch it tonight.  We have watched them all and look forward to each November!
