Spidey Mommy Senses

Dog Ears I tell ya

Mine not the dog... (remember I'm not an animal person)

Something happens when you get pregnant.  Your hearing and sense of smell is heightened.
(You also lose hair, but that's another post)

I think the smell was the first thing....I got pregnant with #1 and I could smell anything nasty (or yummy) in a 5 mile radius.

I think this only got worse with each kid I am 6 kids later and I can smell a football team 4 counties over.

Seriously, I can be upstairs and before I make it downstairs I can smell if the dog took a poo on the floor.  Hubs doesn't know how I know this until we come down and boom there it is.  (again why I'm not an animal person)

This came in handy when Reid turned one of the knobs on the gas stove and the gas turned pilot light or clicking sound to notify .....just my nose ...we were outside and I smelled it...No one else did.

The other thing would be my hearing.  I used to sleep like the dead.  It was nice...I could just fall asleep in any surrounding and stay that way for the remainder of the night.  A bomb could go off right under the house and I would never know it.

I can hear footsteps on carpet 3 houses down.

I can hear conversations on ppl's front porches when I'm in the back of my house upstairs in the bathroom.   (go figure)

It's quite annoying really.

I have to have like 3 sound machines in my room when I sleep.  And even that doesn't work sometimes.  If there is so much a click of a noise my eyes spring open and I'm up

One day the guy down the street had a flood in his house.  He called the 24 hr flood ppl and I could hear that machine all night.  I couldn't for the life of me figure out where the noise was coming from.

At 3 am I was walking room to room trying to figure if it was coming from inside...I finally realized it wasn't.  I thankfully spotted where the noise was...By then I was wide awake and sat there mad.  I mean the poor guy had a flood, but I WAS NEEDING MY MOMMY SLEEP.

I will hear a noise and hubs will say I didn't hear anything.  I will tell him I did and we will have to find it.....He says I have dog ears.

He also says I should just go to sleep and stay that way.  I wish it was that easy.

Another time we had a storm blow through.  Hubs swore that I heard it before it hit.

I hear things in the attic and wall sometimes too...I tell hubs I swear there are ppl living in there and will make pings just to drive me insane.  He said probably!

This must be some sort of "Mommy Sense" that helps us Mommy's be on alert when our kids need us at night...You know that dreaded puking sound coming from their room?  Or when your child is standing over you while you sleep?  (scares the fire out of me)

I'm not complaining...really I'm not

I just sometimes wish my senses went on vacation so I could get some rest.

Duncan My Main Man

Dude Friend Turns 2 this baby is growing up

If you haven't spent a day with this child you are missing out.

His day starts with a bang from the minute he wakes and doesn't end until his head hits the pillow at night.

For those that forgot....Reid's first name is Duncan.  My oldest child says I don't use it often enough  (there you go with the title son)

I blame most of Reid's quirks on hubs  (I mean who else can I blame?)

Reid wakes for the morning calling my name...I go to his room and I say in a crazy voice

"Whoooooo maaaaade thhhhhhisss  meeeeesssssss"

He giggles and throws himself down in the crib and wiggles...

He likes to throw his blanket and stuffed animals on the floor for me....and likes for me to pretend I'm angry about it.  It's a fun game ...and then I toss all of the stuff back in his crib one at a time and he calls each 'friends' name as I chunk it back in.

Then I open his blinds and say "Nope, no snow"  (I used to say hello mr sun, but ever since the snow he likes to say the snow one)

Then I tell him to close his eyes and we turn on his closet light to pick out the clothes for the day

Then head downstairs

He shouts "TOFFEE"

Yes, child the coffee is brewing...which I have learned to set up on a timer and have it ready so when he wakes he can have a sip (again blame hubs)

Now before you freak it's 1/2 caff coffee (thanks folgers) and he gets 1/4 coffee and the rest milk with some van creamer (again blame hubs)

Dude needs to sit on the couch with a blanket covering his legs and all the way to up his chest...he likes his toffee to sit in his lap on the blanket and he shouts "Bear, Owl, Tat"  (that means turn on Little Bear now before I get loud and wake Cole up)

I turn on Little Bear and this gives me a few mins to grab my coffee (that is if Lily and Cole aren't up yet) before big kids come down and need help getting out the door.

Some mornings he won't sit on the couch and is connected to my hip...which makes things rather difficult when Cole is awake too

As soon as I can I have to dress him in his morning outfit.  Which lately he shouts for something with a Ball on it ...the child isn't high maintenance or anything (I blame his father)

The next words I usually hear are BUZZ WOODY ESSIE BUZZ WOODY ESSIE.  And so the Love of Toy Story has begun

We have to watch 1, 2, and 3 over and over.  And before you say ..."you let your kids watch tv?"  Yes, get over it.  I can not for the life of me keep Reid entertained while I feed and change Cole at times.  I'm sitting on a couch for 15-20 mins and asking Reid to sit and read a book with me works for ohhhh all of 2 mins

Then he hops up and realizes mommy is connected to a baby and a couch and he runs and destroys the house.  Buzz keeps him in the room with me at least

Once Lily is up she demands the same treatment.  She needs her clothes on for the day.  I am not sure where my kids got this...but they can not sit in their pj's after they wake.  They have to be fully dressed.  (which is great when you have places to go first thing in the morning)

Lily and Reid are a hoot together....they feed off of each others energy.  (again I want to blame hubs, but I don't think I can on this one)

They have really become cute together....

Lily has been playing dress up with him...sadly I need more boy costumes, but we're getting there.   A little birdy told me he's getting a buzz costume this Friday!!

Here they are playing super heroes.  He's shooting his laser like Buzz

There are some days Lily plays beauty salon with him.  I'll find him sitting on a plastic toy box with a towel draped on his shoulders.  Lily has the hair detangler spray and a brush making him beautiful.  (she says)  He just loves the attention from her.

But watch out...this child has a temper.  His big thing is to scream at the top of his lungs

"HUSH...STOP IT....DON'T TOUCH" and this is followed by a long spit raspberry sound.

I am grateful that this child sleeps...when it's naptime, no matter which time I pick...he comes willingly and waves to everyone ...we rock in his chair and he points to his crib....and off to dream land for a few hrs.

Same with bedtime...he can run wild until bedtime and I tell him it's time to go to sleep and he stops what he's doing and snuggles with me until he's in his bed.

This child has melted my heart 50 thousands ways.....Each day that passes with my boy is another day I'm blessed beyond belief

Dude Friend has taught me patience and how to goof off at same time.

He has taught me there are more things to life than cleaning his million messes up and to stop and smell the peanut butter on a spoon.

He's reminded me of the small things in how the berries on the bush are small balls or a rock is a precious gem or the waddle of a duck is the funniest thing in the world

How splashing bath water on the floor is ok...b/c guess what?  It dries

How pizza is meant to be eaten upside down and backwards....

How lawn mowers look like vacuums and it's ok to 'mow the rug' to help you out mommy

I love you little Dude Friend!

I can't wait for Cole to get older and join in in their fun

Inspiration Menus...What's On Your Dinner Table?

Menu Monday

I've been meal planning on Friday and shopping for the week on Saturday now.  I've realized no one seems to be there on's nice to have the place (ok sort of) to myself.

I'm back to the shopping.  I'm usually head shopper...but after I have a baby hubs takes over for a few months.  I've milked it as long as I can it seems.

Cole is 5.5 months now and it looks like my vacation is over.

We tried going as a family with the 3 small ones the past 2 times....but that's a nightmare by the end of the trip.

So Saturday I did it with just me and Cole and it was super sweet to have that time alone with just me and my boy!

I also realize I spend WAY less than hubs at the store.  I can also drive groceries and be home in 1 hr and 15 mins...hubs?  over 3 hrs.  Maybe he's on to something though by taking his time and not rushing back home to the chaos....I mean joyful sounds of a house with 6 kids.

Tonight...French's Fried Onion Chicken...Cheese and Broccoli and Rolls.
I had a ton of those French's things in the pantry...why not make a meal.

Tuesday:  Enchilada soup and Tamales

I used this recipe before and it was delish!  We buy our Tamales at the corner every Friday.  $10 for a dz and the best around.

The only thing I did differently? Instead of a bell pepper and can of diced tomatoes...I add a can of rotel...

Wednesday:  Cheddar Burgers with Balsamic Onions and Chipotle Ketchup and Tater Tots
Say this recipe on Pinterest and I was sold

Thursday: Cream Cheese Chicken Enchiladas

Same recipe I used last week...but instead of making it with pasta...I'm going to shred the chicken...roll in tortilla and pour more sauce over ...sprinkle with cheese and Viola!  (I'll update with a photo when I make them)  Yes, it was that good

Friday:  Twice Baked Potatoes

I was craving a Baked Potato Bar like in High School and then thought why not Twice Bake them for a crispy goodness?

I gave up by Saturday...Give me some ideas!

It's a .......

I remember the day so vividly when I found out I was expecting a girl.  September 12th 2000  (ok I had to look up the date)

I had 2 boys first and just KNEW that #3 would be another boy.

Oddly enough #1 already knew before I fact he was 4 and told me he had a dream....that God told him he had a little sister and her name was Katelyn.  2 weeks later I found out I was pregnant.   I still didn't believe it was a girl though...(oh me of little faith)

On the sono date the technician wrote down the sex of the baby on a card and I didn't look.  We were saving to look during lunch.....We ordered our food and I couldn't wait any longer..... I flipped the card over and boom....

I will never forget that feeling!  A girl....princesses and tea parties!  Hair list could go on!

January 26, 2001
1:36 am
6 lbs 15oz and 20" of pure sweetness you entered our world!

I was in labor pretty much the whole day and by 9pm I knew we should get a move on to the hospital.  They didn't really believe I was in labor....but didn't turn me away there I "labored" in the room.....

Finally around 1am I told the nurse I needed to push.  She told me No...that the doctor wasn't there yet....I pretty much told her too bad....and the poor nurse had to catch you!  I guess not many natural birthing momma's come their way...The nurse did fine though...(she can write it in her notes)
The dr finally did show up....I can't tell you what her name was or what she looked like...In fact she didn't even ask how I was doing....The dr looked more irritated to be woken up after midnight and dragged out in the rain more than anything.....(hence another reason we used midwives after you)

I remember the first couple of weeks you didn't sleep.   Except during the day.  My mom came to stay with us to help out.  She was a blessing, but sadly could only stay a week.  I remember her driving away and me sobbing....I kept thinking...How will I take care of 3 babies without her.  (grins)

You grew into this fantastic little baby.  Your brothers inhaled you...

The three of you were adorable together!

I used to dream what my daughter would look like and honestly I couldn't have dreamed up a more perfect little girl....Your brown hair and crystal blue eyes blow me away each morning I see your happy face.

Not a moment goes by that you don't hold a smile for me or someone around you

I used to dress you in the silliest things, but you let me...bless your heart...

I love who you are becoming....

Here tomorrow my little girl turns 12....

I know you are in a hurry to  grow up, but I'd like to keep you my little girl just a bit longer!   There are things I have yet to teach you...and things I've yet to learn from you too.

Happy Birthday Tomorrow sweet girl!

Pinterest Inspired Foody

Did you enter my giveawayYour chance to win a Hazel and Olive Scarf.  Enter Quick

I'm going to slow cook a brisket all day....
I'll shred the brisket and then make an assembly line for everyone to add their own foods to the quesadillas

Hazel and Olive Giveaway

Erica Cooper is the winner!!

Surely by now you have heard about Hazel and Olive right?

Sweet Taylor created this company back in October and it has taken off.  Which is truly no surprise to anyone if you know the talent of this fashionista!

Here's a little bit about how the Name of the company came to be...

Hazel and Olive was a dream that started when I was 7 years old. My great grandmother Hazel Olive was a fashionista, always dressed and accessorized perfectly. Not only was she one of my favorite people but also my inspiration. After getting my degree in fashion merchandising and design and working in the fashion industry for over 11 years I decided to branch out on my own and make my dream a reality.

I have a handful of clothes from Hazel and Olive hanging in my closet.  In fact right now I'm wearing the Leopard Cardi.  It's a fantastic light weight material...perfect for now and when spring comes....If you were contemplating it before, I am here to tell you to just get it before it's gone.

What's even better about shopping with Hazel and Olive?  The prices?  You can't beat some of these.  I have seen on other sites Tops selling for $14 more than the Hazel and Olive.  (what???)

Even better than the prices.....FREE SHIPPING!  I don't know how she does it, but I am truly not buying anywhere else.

Taylor's customer service is amazing....If you see an item you like...send her a photo and she will try to find some to carry in her store!

Every Friday she lists new items in her store....starting at 3am.  Just in time to shop before work!

You need to follow Hazel and Olive on facebook and IG to see all the previews for the week.  Makes us giddy when we see previews!  (Ok me!!!)

I'm sure there are many husband's out there cringing when Friday rolls around!  (grins)  Their bank accounts got a bit smaller!

On to the good news?

A Collection of What I'm Doing....(Instagram Photos)

Remember the snow on Tuesday?  Well sweet Reid got in the action and made a giant snowball with his big sissy!

My order of beans came...and guess what I'm making!  My cookies will taste awesome in a few weeks/months!

My kids are in constant motion.  The other night I was feeding Cole on the other couch.  These 2 crazy kids decided it was the perfect opportunity to throw all the pillows on the floor and leap on the couch over and over.  I mean Mom is stuck on the couch feeding a baby...she can't get to us!  Right?!

I kept finding all these wipes on door knobs...I thought LILY...sure enough it was her.  I asked what she was doing?  She said she was cleaning...this was her solution to sticky door knobs...."They won't be sticky anymore Mom"
That'a girl!

During nap time Fried Ice Cream came to instead I took some Bluebell Homemade Vanilla and sprinkled cinnamon over it and stirred!  I can't take the credit...My hubby does this often!   IT'S SO GOOD

After putting the babies to bed last night, I went into living room to start picking up toys....I glanced up and this is what I found!
My oldest child is a hoot!!!

As to this beauty?  Candied Praline Pecans
The Recipe calls for 1/2 cup crushed in the graham crackers crumbs for my Pecan Praline Cheesecake....The little ones (ok and myself) ended up eating some and I needed to make more.  I tripled the recipe to eat some...and then sprinkle over the top of the cheesecake with Caramel sauce!

Don't say I didn't warn you...this stuff was amazing!

1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 tsp melted butter
1/2 tbs  sugar
2 tbs brown sugar
1 1/2 tbs heavy cream
pinch of salt

Heat oven to 375
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

Stir ingredients together....and spread in thin layer on parchment paper
Bake for about 15-17 mins until Caramel Color and bubbly!

Then I stirred and let cool on parchment.

EAT or sprinkle over your cheesecake!!!

Goody Two Shoes

It's been a week....but it only feels like yesterday...

Life is crazy with 6 kids...esp ones that don't really like to nap...

Points to COLE...

I can't complain b/c he goes to bed by 7:30 ...then I can complain again because he doesn't stay that way until morning....night before last slept great..woke up once and slept until 8:45...Today?  Woke up every 2 hrs last night....I complain...I complain

BUT (change of subject)

Today it snowed again....the schools didn't cancel...even though the High School bus didn't show up?  (what?)

So I kept the kids home anyways...the older boys went back to bed ...Mini Me was all in a panic...

"Can we do that?  Are we allowed to stay home?  But I'm not sick.  Will someone find out?  What will the note say for tomorrow?"

and so on and so on

I told her she was more than happy to go if she wanted but we were all staying home and going to have fun in the snow while it was still here!

She finally took off her Goody Goody hat (yes I am happy she has will keep her from doing bad things in high school...thank you Lord for giving my kids a guilt meter)

On ANOTHER different note...I got 2 paying gigs for cookies....

Yes I know I'm not that great...but I do love making them...and as long as I don't screw up I should be ok...Besides when you do something with a happy heart it makes others happy too!

This one was for a 9 yr old little girl's Archery Party...How fun is that?

The next one is for a baby shower.  I can't wait to get started...the invitation is adorable and I'll make some look just like invite!

But for now I need to get busy with Reid's 2nd birthday decor

I got the party favors.....canteens....I'm going to get some red plaid fabric and make straps and then print some cute stickers for the front!

Hubs needs to get busy with the tents!!!  I'm running out of time!

5 Months...Stop It!

My baby is growing too fast...
I'm not sure what I did to speed time up...but whatever it is needs to quit..

He truly is this happy!  This child loves being held...talked to....played with...just hanging with others.
And we definitely have tons of others to hang with around here!!

I thought I would feed Cole some oatmeal a few days ago.  Stupid on my part really....considering the fact that I usually wait until 6 months for solids...

Found out 2 hrs after feeding him that he must be allergic to Oatmeal.  Vomiting for 2 hrs and the next day we had crazy baby poo ....he's a spit up baby anyways..but the past 3 days after the oatmeal its been more than normal.  I messed up my poor baby!!!  But he was a trooper and slept through the whole 2 hrs of puking!

I would really like a do over for that night!  Sorry sweet Cole!

I love having the kids around during Cole's is a classic photo during the shoot.  He was bombarded!

Lily here is shushing him!  And Reid's face is hysterical!  I love taking over 80 photos and getting these in the mix!!  Remember the one of Reid and Cole with their heads together?  See I would have missed that sweetness!

Happy 5 months my sweet boy!

Get Your Bake On....Cookies Galore

Another thing I have been doing?  Baking up a storm!
More cookies than I can count...
I made 68...yes you read that right...68 of these bad boys.

Santa needed a special 'come down the chimney and leave me some presents' cookies.
And then I made so many Peanut Butter Blossom cookies that I lost count after 80.
And  another batch of Blossom cookies, but instead of Hershey kisses I used Reece's Peanut Butter Cups

I will never use Hershey Kisses again after that...these are by far killer with Reece's cups

You want Blossom Cookie recipe?...You definitely have to use the Hershey Kiss recipe!

  • 48  HERSHEY'S KISSES Brand Milk Chocolates
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup REESE'S Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  •   Additional granulated sugar
  1. Heat oven to 375°F. Remove wrappers from chocolates.
  2. Beat shortening and peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture.
  3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate into center of each
cookie; cookie will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

Christmas Eve morning I made the gang.....

Monkey bread!

I found it easier to just use 3 cans if Cinnabon Rolls with icing!!!
