Worked For Me and More.....

I see those things on Pinterest and think "Oh man I need to try those"

Well I'm here to say I tried a few and bam they worked....

Domed Cakes.  I hate em.  I hate trying everything to make those suckers not dome.  And end up having to cut the tops off.  Which I may or may not do pefectly

I have seen those cake insulators, but at $12+ a piece I didn't buy any.
Until I saw the post on how to make some cheap easy ones at home.....

When we put our cake pans in the oven they cook from the outside in, so the middle is the last to finish baking. Like bread and any other baked goods, the batter will continue to rise. As the outer edges cook and harden, the batter stops rising at the edges, but because the middle is still soft, the batter is pushed up through that soft area until the baking hardens the crust of the entire cake, causing doming.

SO go grab yourself some old towels, ruler, and scissors and get to cutting.

My pans were about 1.5" thick so that is what I cut my towel strips to.   I also wrapped it around the pan and overlapped a bit to get length.
When ready to use just wet the strips and wrap around pan.  I secured mine with safety pins.

Look how perfect the cakes baked.  I did notice they baked faster.  A friend reduces her baking temp.  Either do that or check 5-8 mins before true baking time.

I am a fast cracker.  haha  I crack them eggs fast to get to baking.  I should prob slow down but.......

It never fails I get a shell inside and trying to fish that bad boy out is ANNOYING.  It moves from side to side and you can never catch it.  I saw on Pinterest how someone used a broken piece of shell and boom it zipped it.  Sure it did....????
So next time I got a small piece of shell I tried it
BAM IT WORKED.  I'm on a roll now!

I tried to recreate it so you could see.  First picture see the shell on the yolk?  Next picture look can see the chip floated right into the shell!  I'm highly impressed and thinking Doh...why didn't I think of that?!

Ok that ends this segment of It Worked For lets do

Did I mention we were having our foundation worked on?  It's finished.  We were lifted 9" just waiting on concrete ppl to pour a new driveway.  (look you can see under house)  I'm excited to think our foundation is now better than before....Pier and Beam are the bomb!

I did another silly 15 sec oily video to show the noise can't get me down!

It was 3 weeks of seriously the workers were quick quiet (as possible) and cleaned up like they were never there each day at the end of the job.  I baked some coffee cake and cookies for them....nothing like a little sweets while digging holes by hand under a house!  I'm still angry my hubs wouldn't let me go down the tunnels!  He kept asking me how old I was....(sticks tongue out)

I adore Extra Virgin cooking show and just had to get their cookbook.  The pages are gorgeous and reading Debi and Gabriele narrate together made this book.  Sweet couple sharing their love story and love of cooking and Italy!

HONEST-ly in love with The Honest Company....and I esp love May's bundle.  I got some monthly favorites (healing balm and wash) got to try a few new ones.....the powder and bottom wash.  The bottom wash came in handy since my box arrived and #6 had a blow out!  Think I've found some new favs!

Aww the secret of my daily routine....I'm addicted to Luxy Hair (extensions)  I'm realizing how naked and I feel without them and how TRULY thin my hair is w/o them.  I'm using the 160gm (honestly my hair is so thin I could prob have used the 120) in mocha brown.  IT'S A PERFECT MATCH

and TODAY WAS THE DAY baby's LAST LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.  Graduation is next week.  I am not as sad as I should be b/c HE IS STAYING HOME FOR SCHOOL THIS FIRST YEAR.  Bam.  Ask me how I'm doing when he officially leaves!

Sinful and Sweet...Brown Sugar Pecan Coffee Cake

People ask the "Well how was your day?"  question.
But do they truly want to know?

I mean how do you really think I'm doing?  I have 6 kids....3 of which are still at home conquering and destroying the moment I turn my back

1.5 kids still in diapers (the half is b/c he refuses to #2 in potty)  so I'm constantly dealing in poo

And if not from kids the dog is battling the kids in competition for messes

I eat standing up

Shower in less than 5 mins

Rarely sleep

I will be more than willing to bore you with all the lame details...

So How's my day so Far?

Well instead of cleaning, or showering, or laundry, or dishes or or or

I decided I needed to procrastinate and make this bad boy

Brown Sugar Pecan Coffee Cake

So simple to make....if you bake often you will have everything on hand.

I was short 1/4 cup of sour cream, but still turned out moist and delicious

The bottom layer was soft and buttery good...the middle layer soft cake like and the top layer held the perfect amount of cinnamon sugar crunch with pecans.  I drizzled some warm syrup over the top and plopped myself down in the corner and savored each bite!

Southern Living never fails me.....

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 cup sour cream (I only used 3/4 cup)
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

  • 1. Stir together flour and brown sugar in a large bowl. Cut 3/4 cup butter into flour mixture with a pastry blender or 2 forks until crumbly. Press 2 3/4 cups crumb mixture evenly on the bottom of a lightly greased 13- x 9-inch pan.
  • 2. Stir together sour cream, egg, and baking soda; add to remaining crumb mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Stir together granulated sugar and cinnamon. Pour sour cream mixture over crumb crust in pan; sprinkle evenly with cinnamon mixture and pecans.
  • 3. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted into center comes out clean.

My Month in IG Pics

Mother's Day 2014...come and gone

My children feel the need to be nice to me on this day.  I'll take it.  The big ones watched littles w/o asking and went with me when I had to run errands.

#3 even painted me a picture....

I even was blessed with a silver monogram ring!  ohhhh every southern gal needs monograms and silver right?!

I even got all 6 to sit for a photo.  Using a self timer with a 3 and 21m old isn't easy.  IN the end ALL did great except #1.  Really you had to blink? haha I'm still happy though.

Hubs and I can't quit TruFire in Frisco.  I'm addicted to their Falafel.   Like I could go everyday and eat it.

I ordered my first Happy Mommy Box and it should be arriving any day now!  I'm stoked!

Oh Yea!  Hazel and Olive got a store front and it opened this month!  I had to check it out.  It was so charming and SO BUSY.  I barely had time to chat with the star...I mean Taylor!  Can't wait to go back!

Oldest and his gang limo and dinner night out!  Seniors...time is flying by!

Hey mom...I love your coffee and I love watching you clean it even more!

Ok this is just the start of the most amazing Fire Roasted Tomato Basil soup recipe.  It's from Cooking Light 2012 and NO I DIDN'T MAKE MINE LIGHT.  This stage is melting the cream cheese.  Then you blend it and add milk and heat through.  It's better than La Madeline
Recipe found here

Had a craving for dark chocolate.  Why not make 4 dz cookies right?

And the Pièce de résistance.....

Honey Apple Cake with warm Honey Sauce.  It's dessert tonight.  I couldn't quit sniffing the cake as it was cooling.  Southern Living you have never let me down!

I braved the bathing suit shopping and bought this bad boy.  Oh I'm gonna wear it with pride!  Bring it

Because I adore Honest Company stuff and because I got a free bag I had to share this months goods.....
Click this link
to try a bundle package for free....diapers or other products.  We use their diapers for #6 and all their other baby bath/booty/soaps/powders/toothpaste/sunscreen products.  It's hard to find good chemical paraben free things at a good price.  I've found that with them!

Oldest went suit shopping ...I broke down crying right there in the department!

Soap?  Not only do I love this scent, but I'm in love with the bottle!

Sense Of Humor Needed

I didn't grow up in a big family... just mom and dad and older brother.

Now that I have  my own family and it's a family of 8 not 4 things are well....  a little different than how I grew up

and crazier (for sure)

I will admit I am the one that likes pulling jokes too.  I'm more the "waiting around the corner and jumping out" kind of mom.  I know horrible right?

I love the thrill of crouching and waiting.  The thrill of suppressing my laughter holding my breath for that unsuspecting person.  Waiting for when they are almost upon and springing into action!

I also love this thing

It's a life size (I assume but he seems rather short in this cutout) of a One Direction boy.  Forgive me if I forget his name...his name isn't the point.  The fact that we can place him in funny places is the point

Today this is where #2 has placed him.  Inside #3's shower.
We call him Kate's BF.  Boyfriend cracks me up!

It started when she got him for her birthday.  He was standing in the corner of her room and when we would go into her room to get something catch someone out of the corner of your eye and scares the poo out of you

Which is when the idea was born in my brain

I love it when the kids go to their room and open the door and there is BF

#5 of all ppl got me one day

He moved BF into my bedroom and when I rounded the corner to put laundry away I nearly tossed my cookies

Someone also won't fess up, but got me again day I went into #3's room and glanced at her bed and there was a man in it....BF AGAIN.

BF catches you so off guard!!

I love hearing the scream and then the laughter and then the "I'll get you"

Seriously...if you don't have a sense of humor you need not apply to our family.

We like to get you when you least expect it.  If my children don't try to get me then I'm not raising them right!

That Stinks

We got an oil for that.....

Hey come here...lean closer....You wanna know my secret for a clean smelling home?

Especially if I have company that is about to come over I grab about 1/2 cup of baking soda and my Young Living Purification and Joy oils.  I sprinkle about 5 drops each in the baking soda and then stir and smash with a spoon.  If I'm pressed for time I will just sprinkle on the rugs/carpets and vacuum.  If I have time I will let this sit in the bowl and on rug first to let soak in to BAM SCENTED GOODNESS!

Instant spa smell!  I even diffuse this combo during the day too...not only does the Purification help kill odors, but Joy uplifts spirits and makes me happy!!

Today I wanted to chat about those nasty odors and other things that you might like Purification for

First off it smells like those hard candy Lemon Drop  (to me anyways)...who doesn't love lemon drops??!!!

This blend can even help repel bugs, insects, and mice.

Great first aid for sterilizing cuts and wounds

SO what oils are in Purification?

Melaleuca (tea tree)

So you can see this blend has some fantastic oils in it for many great uses!

Stinky shoes?  I got an answer for this

Put a few drops of Purification on some cotton balls and put inside your shoes or your kids.  Leave overnight or for a week (stink stink) and boom....Lemon Drop smelling shoes

I also do this in the shoe bin.  Each child has a bin to keep shoes in and this basket can sure smell.  I put a few cotton balls inside weekly!

Driving in the car with stinky things inside?  (could be your kids?  maybe not?!)
Put a few drops on cotton balls and put in the air vents.  Instant clean smell!

Great to use with summer coming on those smelly moldy camp clothes that you find left in a corner
(don't forget to use your Thieves Cleaner in your laundry too)

Another thing with summer coming?  Bug Repellent
here is a recipe from My Blessed Life

Homemade Bug Repellent

  • Plastic spray bottle
  • 8 oz distilled water
  • Pinch of epsom salts
  • 8 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 8 drops purification essential oil
Pour the distilled water into a 2-cup measuring cup. Add a pinch of epsom salts. Add the oils and stir. Use a funnel and pour the mixture to the spray bottle.
Before you use the bug repellent be sure to shake the bottle to make sure the oils are suspended in the water as much as possible.
Spray skin and clothes generously and be sure to have the kids close their eyes while you spray their necks and arms.
Notes: The epsom salts help suspend the oils in the water. Peppermint essential oil is just that – peppermint. Purification is a blend of citronella, lemongrass, rosemary, melaleuca, lavandin, and myrtle.
Also…if this bug repellent isn’t effective, add more essential oils. Everyone’s body chemistry is different so the proportions that work for us, may not work for you.

How do you use your Purification?
